I stare at the text for a minute and decide to call Evelyn.
      "He-" I start.
"Remember my son, Tobias?" She interrupts.
"Yes. He Transferred to Dauntless almost three years ago," I answer.
"And aren't you currently seeing Tris? The little girl from Abnegation who transferred to Dauntless?" Evelyn sounds desperate.
"Yes. I don't like where this is going, Evelyn..." I trail off.
"Apparently he was dating Tris when she was completing her initiation, but she then dumped him shortly after she became a member."
      I almost drop my phone.
       "What?!" I gasp.
"See you at Marcus's memorial! I've gotta go. Bye!" Evelyn hangs up before I have a chance to respond properly. I take a deep breath. I don't think I've ever been so overwhelmed in my entire life, and I was made Erudite leader when I was sixteen.
I look at the dress Evelyn left me. It's a dark navy blue color, almost black. When I hold it up in the mirror, it seems to go just past my knees and is tight. I know I should wear that and pay my respects to a dead faction leader, but out of hatred for the man who raped me, I don't. I put on a bright blue dress instead and curl my hair. I glance at the clock. It's 3:40. I don't care if I'm late, though.
Just before I leave, I put on red lipstick. It's always made me feel more powerful when I wasn't feeling so. I sigh, then walk out they door.
I arrive at Marcus's house at 3:05. I'm sure his memorial has already started, and I'm correct. I swing the doors open and walk down the isle that has been created with the chairs to his coffin. I spin and look at everyone who is seated.
In the front row I see Andrew and Tris, and the rest of their family. To my surprise Caleb is sitting with them. I didn't know one of the best initiates I've ever had was from Abnegation. His IQ score was only 50 below mine. It's almost unheard of.
I turn to Evelyn and Tobias, who stand in the corner. Evelyn is leaning on the coffin as though it was worthless, but Tobias seems weary of it.
"I'd like to say something before the official eulogy," I say. "For all of you who are mourning the loss of this man, stop. He was an assailant. He beat his wife and only child, and he sexually assaulted several women in this room, including me. I'm sure that some of you think I'm lying, but I'm not. And now, finally, his time has come. A few years late, if you ask me, but he's dead, and we're all safer for it."
The room is completely silent. I consider leaving the room, but I'm not done speaking. "Time's up. All sexual assault victims should come forward and not be scared. If you're brave enough to name names, even better. We live in a dark age, but nobody has the right to fuck someone over the way Marcus did to so many women."
I kick his coffin hard, then run out of his house. I run straight into the traffic, sliding over the hoods of any cars that dare to attempt to get in my way. I'd cry, but I'm too angry. I hear people calling my name, but I don't listen. I don't ever want to return to the Abnegation sector again.
I lie in my bed, staring at the ceiling with my arms crossed. I hear the door creak open and I sit up instantly, my vision going black in the corners. I'm too old to be sitting up this fast.
      "Yo, Jeanine," Evelyn says.
"Evelyn. I'd appreciate it if you used the doorbell. It's there for a reason," I snarl.
"I just wanted to say thank you. So many women in that room came forward and said that Marcus assaulted them. We ended his memorial early and threw his coffin into the chasm in Dauntless," She sounds almost... gentle.
"That's good. I couldn't handle it. It was too much for me," I say.
"It's okay," Evelyn says, sitting down next to me. She strokes my hair and I tensen up.
      "What's wrong?" She asks.
"Nothing. I'm just... I'm in a relationship, Evelyn. And I'm happy."
      Evelyn smiles.
      "If you're happy, I'm happy."
I grab Evelyn's hand and look deep into her eyes. They're a familiar hazel, similar to Tris's eyes.
      "Thank you, Evelyn."
"That reminds me! I'm curious to know what's in your fear landscape, so I convinced Tobias to let me use the room that Dauntless uses during their mental stage of training!" She says.
"I've always been curious to know what my worst fears are." I think about it for a moment. "I'll go with you. I just have to change."
