Y/N's POV:

45 laps into the Monaco Grand Prix, 33 to go. Daniel held a confident 10 second lead to Hamilton. He had an amazing start and has led the race since it began. I'm so nervous for him. He deserves this so much.
I didn't get many words out of him this morning, he woke up, made sure I was okay as I'm still recovering from my accident. Done his usual morning routine and then left. It was quite strange but I guess he wants this win more than anything, I understand that.

Daniel's POV:

I started to feel nervous but had to remain calm. All I could think about was standing on top of that podium telling a beautiful girl how I feel. The end of this race was near, all I have to do is be careful and keep the same pace. I have already pitted so there was no need to worry about that. Just have to hope nothing goes wrong and the car behaves itself. Knowing Y/N is watching me back at my apartment is keeping me going. I notice a few dark clouds hovering above, that's the last thing I want. I may be okay in the rain, but please not today.

'No rain forecasted Daniel, keep your head down, let's do this' Is what I get told when I question the sky.

Y/N's POV:

All I kept doing was muttering the same encouragement words over and over again after every lap. 15 laps are left, Daniel with a 7 second lead. It dropped slightly due to him calming his pace, being more careful. When all of a sudden, the worst happened. Coming out of turn 8, Daniel had clipped the wall, losing some front wing and getting a front left puncture. My head fell in my hands as I heard Daniel coming over the radio.

'Err, I've got a puncture, think there's some front wing damage as well'

'Copy Daniel, we're ready for you'

He didn't sound bothered whatsoever, maybe he's confident he can get in and out of the pits and still win this race, however Hamilton soon caught up to him and overtook him in the swimming pool section. As the on board camera focused on him, I saw him shaking his head as he limped into the pits. With a new front wing and set of fresh ultra soft tyres Daniel came out of the pits half a lap behind.

'Not what we needed Daniel but these things happen, 14 laps left buddy, knuckle down' His team was confident he could do this, and so was I.

The race went on and on until it hit the final lap, Daniel was 5 seconds behind first place. He may be the best over taker on the grid but I don't think he's going to do it, which is so upsetting, he's going to be so angry with himself.

Like I said, the chequered flag waved and Daniel did cross the line in second. The on board camera focused on him once again, this time capturing him hitting his steering wheel several times.

'Guys I'm so sorry, I needed this win, you needed this win and I threw it away, I'm so sorry' Daniel said to his team via radio, his voice cracking.

'Don't be so hard on yourself mate, we're only human after all, remember we've still got second place' they replied.

I took a deep breath and a sip of water, he needs a hug when he gets home.

Daniel's POV:

I removed my helmet and got out the car, went over to my team and then walked away to have a moment with myself, if I'm honest, I need to calm down. The mistake I made cost me the win which means I broke my own promise. Maybe it's a sign telling me she doesn't feel the same.
