Daniel's POV:
I had gotten to the track earlier than normal, I wanted to see the F2 race. I was excited and slightly nervous, now I know how my parents feel when they watch me.
I picked a spot towards the end of the pit lane, I could also see a big screen TV from there so I could follow the whole lap.
As the cars made their way onto the grid I saw Y/N, I already googled her previously to remind myself which team she drove for and her number, I even know what colour her helmet is. I've turned into a right stalker.
My stomach churned as the lights went out. I saw Y/N had a great start and overtook a couple of cars straight off.
Y/N was up into 5th when I heard gasps from the pit lane. I looked up at the screen. I couldn't make out the cars as there was dust everywhere. The only thought going through my mind was please don't let it be Y/N. I felt my stomach churn, I was going to be sick. Then as the TV cameras picked up the remaining cars on track I noticed her. A loud sigh of relief left my mouth. I can't get used to these feelings she's giving me. I don't even know her yet.
The safety car was out and most of the cars pitted apart from Y/N, she kept track position and was 3rd. I was getting more excited by the minute, she could get on the podium. Only 10 laps remained, I wonder if she'll do a shoey or something.
Unfortunately, the cars that pitted had fresher tyres and were able to go faster, Y/N's tyres were fading. With 3 laps left I saw a driver getting closer. It was George Russell the Mercedes reserve driver. I suddenly felt anger and nerves. Don't you dare take her out, not my girl! Wait, what, she isn't my girl yet.
As Russell was getting closer I was sure he would send it up the inside of her, that's what I would do. But with my leg tapping just like Christian's does, I realised it's easier to race than watch. I was so nervous, Russell pulled out from her slipstream and braked much later than her. I couldn't breathe, my mouth was open, please don't crash. I wanted to close my eyes but couldn't. Russell got back on the gas and pulled in front of her. If I'm honest it was a good move, I would of applauded if he hadn't overtaken Y/N. She was 4th with a lap left. I felt sorry for her, getting so close to the podium. I know what it feels like.
The race finished and Y/N had come 4th, holding off another driver for the last few corners to keep her place. I felt so proud of her and also disappointed for her. She drove a great first race.
As I made my way back down to the paddock, I'd hope I'd bump into her accidentally, well my wish came true. I saw her coming out of her garage smiling, and wow, I thought I had the biggest smile in the paddock but hers was breath taking. Maybe I should go and congratulate her.
"Y/N" I called, she turned around and walked towards me. "Hey" she replied, still with the most beautiful smile on her face. "You drove brilliantly" I told her. Could I see her blush slightly? "Thanks, it was tricky towards the end not being on the fresher tyres, but I'm happy with 4th. I'll get them next time" she replied, she was like a breath of fresh air.
"I'm sure you will" I was about to say something else when he showed up again, what is it with this guy always showing up and interrupting us.
"Y/N, you were great out there, not to bad for a girl" Lando said playfully. Then he pulled her into a tight embrace and even lifted her up. My hands scrunched up into a fist. I didn't have the right to say anything but I really wanted to. I want to be the one who congratulates her after a race or pick her up after a bad one. He left after she thanked him and they made arrangements for a celebration drink later that evening, should I go and accidentally bump into her again?
I looked at the time, I needed to get back to my garage.
"Er I have to get going, but if you want to hang around and be my cheerleader this time you're more than welcome" I smiled, mentally face palming myself, that sounded so cringe. "I usually hang around and watch you guys anyway, I have a seat in the McLaren garage but I'll keep an eye out for you as well" she winked and walked off.
She winked, I felt my stomach churning again but in a good way. I skipped off towards the Red Bull garage. She's turning me into a softie.
