Zacharie sat silently on a bed. Apparently, it was his. It was his room, and his parents house. He didn't know these people.
Yelling was audible from a nearby room.
" ...YOUR FAULT HE'S THIS WAY..."
" THIS IS OUR SON, FOR GODS SAKE...."He let out a long sigh. He missed his world. His friends. Pablo, Valerie, Sugar, The Batter, hell, even the Elsens.
After a while, the yelling quieted down. There was a knock on the door. Zacharie opened it hesitantly.
A man, who claimed to be his father, walked in, a forced smile on his face. He motioned Zacharie to the bed, and he obliged. The man sat next to him.
After a long silence, the man spoke." Do you remember my name? My real one."
Zacharie shook his head. " I'm sorry, I just don't know you. The only name I've ever known you by is Enoch, and even that's not correct."
" Zacharie, this isn't funny. If you see this as a joke, I am gravely disappointed."
Zacharie sighed. " No. It's not a joke, Mon Ami. This is real. I don't know you, I don't know that woman, I don't know any of you. I want to go home."
" ...Son. This is your home. Our home. This is the real world."They sat in silence for a moment longer. The man then reached to take off Zacharie's mask.
Zacharie hissed. " DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THAT!"
There was an awkward pause. Zacharie frowned, staring at the ground now, but took off the mask himself.
The man gasped. " W... Zacharie! What have you done to yourself?!"
" Nothing. I was always like this."
" No. You've clearly lost sight of reality. I am your father. She is your mother. Soon enough, I'll have you acquainted with another man. He's really nice. You can talk to him about your made up world. Your..."
" OFF. And it's real. I don't need a therapist. I don't need help. You think me as insane, don't you? I don't even know you! You've kept me pent here for a week now! Batter will find you, I swear, and he'll let me go!"The man seemed hurt. Quietly, he left the room, shutting the door behind him.
Zacharie was once again alone. He quickly put his mask back on.
Tears began to form, but he wiped them away. He wasn't supposed to cry.
Yet everything was gone. They had found him alone in a forest. He had been gone for about fourth months. They said he was delusional. He was crazy. He was insane. And, at first, he believed them.
But everything felt to real. From the first time he met The Judge, to his final chat with The Batter.
So he'd deny. He didn't know the names of anyone. His father, his mother, his sibling, his friends. Nobody was familiar. Yes, he could relate them to people he knew, but he never really knew who they were.A familiar voice spoke to him. " Are you okay, Merchant?"
He turned quickly. On the other side of his bed, sat The Batter himself.
Zacharie reached out to The Batter and touched him. " Y-You're real...."
The Batter nodded. " Of course. Why would y-"
Zacharie pulled him into a tight hug, sniffling. " I... I was told you were fake.... that it was all a dream..."
The Batter smiled softly. " No. I'm here for you. I'm here."For a while, they sat like that, Zacharie clinging onto the larger man. Finally, he let go.
" A..Are we going back...?"
The Batter nodded. " The land is still impure. I need your assistance."
" But h-how will we leave? They locked everything."
" Take my hand. I'll show you."
Zacharie took The Batter's hand.
Together, they disappeared." He's disappeared...? What a shame. Hopefully they find and return him safely. Zacharie sounded... interesting. I'll call you later."
He hung up.
Poor Zacharie. Another delusional child in a fictional world.
He sighed, standing up. The office was full of baseball posters, and pictures of his family. His wife. His son.
His blank expression seemed to harden, looking at a picture of Zacharie.
He knew this boy, surely.
He set the picture aside, remembering a small bit of a dream.
A boy, almost identical to Zacharie wore an odd, frog-like mask.
"What was it he called me...?" He wondered aloud.
Ah, yes.The Batter.
