Leaves

It was a chilly day, and Castiel preferred to stay inside, watching the leaves fall from the tree. He had a cup of coffee in his hand, but he wasn't drinking it.

It was Saturday, so he had the entire day to himself. He turned on the radio, filling the house with soft music. He leaned his head against the window and watched the neighbors rake leaves.

With a sigh, he stood up and went outside. He put his coffee cup on the porch, and went into the front yard. The wind was cool, but wasn't cold enough to need a jacket.

Castiel laid on the grass under the tree in his yard. The colorful leaves fell and danced in the air, before landing like feathers on the green grass. Cas folded his arms behind his head, and breathed in through his nose, savoring the smell.

He couldn't describe the smell around him, other than... fall. That was the smell.

He must've drifted off, because someone was shaking him lightly. He opened his eyes to see that the sun was low in the sky, and Dean was leaning over him.

"Hey, sleepy head," he said, rubbing his hands over Castiel's arms. "You told me to come over, but you fell asleep in your yard."

Castiel rubbed his eyes. "I did? I didn't mean to," he mumbled. Dean smiled slightly.

"I know you didn't."

Castiel sat up and looked around. The sun was low, but was still away from sunset. Leabes continued to fall around him and Dean. He stood up, Dean following.

But he didn't go inside. Instead, he grabbed Dean's hands, and fell back into a pile of leaves. Dean fell on top of him, laughing.

"What are you doing?" Dean asked, grabbing a handful of leaves and dropping them on Castiel.

"Playing in the leaves," Castiel responded, pushing Dean off him and standing up. He took a few steps to the side, and jumped into a huge pile of leaves, sending the colors flying.

"You're such a child," Dean laughed, and jumped in next to Castiel.

They played for what felt like hours. They only went inside when the sun went down.

The boys sat at the kitchen table, coffee in hand.

"If you love fall," Dean smirked, "winter will be amazing."
