Tomorrow Away

We were standing back to back along the walls,

Eyes were gazing us down like hawks stalking mice,

Fire lit up from the trash can at the end of the street,

And we danced all night,

We were hand in hand strolling in the halls,

No eyes were upon us and the change was nice,

We have fought in our time but thoughts were defeat,

And we flew higher than the highest kite,

You told me you loved me and I was in awe,

For the words poured from your lips like blood,

I was to numb to think, and to dumb to know,

I should have just gone and let you go,

You left me that year and the back to back broke,

And the hawk had chosen his prey for the catch,

dive, swoop, grab, snap, kill

The fire was put out in the pre-dawn of day,

No dacing for me until a tomorrow away
