SHIVAAY DROVE TOWARDS the hospital with a breezy smile on his face. He felt lighthearted, like the weight on his chest had been lifted. Things were now looking better. He had reconciled with his best friend, Anika looked happier or at least better. His family was back to normal and Shivaay was on cloud nine.

He hummed to the song playing on the radio which was ‘In My Feelings’. He tapped against the steering wheel lightly and bobbed his head to the music.

But he could feel Anika's gaze on him and no matter how many years they had been together, Shivaay still found himself feeling flustered when she stared at him with her big brown eyes. “What?” he asked.

“Nothing, you look cute today.” Shivaay flushed, his cheeks heating up as she complimented him.

“Thanks, I guess,” Shivaay mumbled, embarrassed. “You wanna grab a drink before we go?”

“Yes, please. I have been craving hot mocha since morning. Can we please get that?” Anika pleaded.

“Why not?”

So they both stopped by the café and ordered their receptive drinks. Sipping his coffee, Shivaay pulled out the car and drove to the hospital. Soon they were at the hospital and Shivaay pulled Anika along. On the way, he spotted a man being pushed towards the ICU. He looked like he had a terrible accident because his whole body was covered in blood and Shivaay scrunched up his nose in nausea. He prayed to every deity listening to help the poor guy.

“I don't understand how you doctors can stand the sight of blood all day, all week and all year,” Shivaay mused and turned to Anika to find she was clutching her head. A moment later her knees collapsed and Shivaay reached out, catching hold of her waist.

“ANIKA?”

Anika Maheshwari's world was spinning. She cracked her eyes open and stared up at a familiar ceiling. She sat up groggily and clutched her head which was throbbing. The world slowly came into focus and Anika realized she was somehow back to her room. She distinctly remembered how after seeing that man covered in blood, nausea had took over her and her body had suddenly gone weak.

After that, the world was black.

She massaged her head and sighed. She heard the door creaking open but didn't even lift her head. Soon after, the other side of the bed dipped. “Alright, love?”

“Alright, Shivaay.” She dragged a hand through her hair. “What happened?”

His hands slid in hers and he made her look up. His eyes were once again dull, turning green. “You fainted at the hospital and I took you to the doctors. They told me…”

“What?” Anika tried to pull her hands away from his but he tightened his grasp.

“You have Haemophobia–”

“As in the fear of blood?” Anika asked, this time succeeding in pulling her hands out of his. Shivaay nodded and Anika took a sharp breath. “But that can't be true. I bandaged your knuckles the other day and I was fine. I didn't faint.”
