The car ride was quiet and short. I left the car before Sylvia then helped her out. Now I knew why she was wearing such ordinary clothes. We were at a human hospital. We rode up the elevator and down a few halls. We stopped at a window. Inside the room was a girl. She looked so young. Her eyes were shut but I could see her chest moving up and down as she breathed. She was connected to so many machines it was just shocking.

"She's a human?" I looked at Sylvia.

"No." she replied.

"But then how…" I trailed off.

"Alexis is half vampire, half human," she moved towards the door.

"Hybrids don't live past the first year though," I followed her.

"You'll see," Sylvia knocked on the door. A man opened it. A vampire. Protector.

"You're majesty," he bowed and opened the door wider.

"Theodore, this is Destiny. Destiny, meet Theodore." Sylvia said softly.

"It's nice to meet you," Theodore stretched out his hand. I shook it.

"How is she?" Sylvia asked.

"Improving. Doctors say that if she continues to stay this way she can leave this weekend," he replied.

"Good. Gwen will be ready," she said.

"Mmm…" we all turned when we heard the bed creak.

Theodore was beside her in a flash, "Lexi." he caressed her hair.

"Theo," she coughed.

"I'm here," I found it very amazing to see how the two of them bonded.

"Up," she said softly and Theodore helped Alexis into a sitting position. "Your Majesty."

"Hello Alexis," Sylvia smiled warmly.

"Who's this?" she looked at me.

"This is Destiny," Theodore said.

"It's nice to meet you," I said.

"You too," she smiled weakly. "I guess you already worked out that I'm not entirely vampire."

I nodded.

"My father was vampire but my mother was a human." she said. "My mother died giving birth to me and my father was killed by humans leaving me to be raised by one of the schools."

"In her given condition I was assigned her protector since she was a three. We did not expect her to live." Theodore continued.

"But I beat odds." Alexis looked down.

"She was gifted with life as a hybrid," Theodore pushed some hair out of her face.

"It's more of a curse," she sighed. "My life is plagued with illness."

I didn't have anything to say after that.

"Alexis has just had a bout of pneumonia," Theodore explained. "We want to take her out of the human's care into our society."

"We wish to have her live in the palace." Sylvia continued.

"What must I do?" I asked.

"I have been asked to participate in something with some other protectors. I will be gone for a month and we need someone to look after her," Theodore mumbled.

"You see," Sylvia said, "Alexis attends a private human school. They believe that the reason she has a bodyguard is because she's rich."

"A human school?" I asked.
