On the day of ball I had nothing to wear. I hadn't gone to many social occasions so my nicest dress was a plain black dress with a flowing skirt. It was simple but nice. I sighed and ran over to Solace's room. I knocked loudly.
"Yes," she pulled the door open.
"I don't have anything for tonight," I said. A smile grew across her face.
"I'm glad you asked," she grabbed my arm and once again I was dragged off.
"I don't remember asking you anything," I muttered.
"This is the tailor's office. She makes the most amazing things," Solace gushed. "Go on in. She'll make something that fits you perfectly."
I walked into the office and gazed around. All the wall were covered with pictures of beautiful gowns. Racks of materials scattered the room.
"Hello?" I called.
"How can I help you?" a girl emerged from somewhere further back. Her long hair was pulled back with a few hair pins holding the bun in place.
"I need a dress for tonight," I said.
"Of course. Come along," she beckoned me to follow her. We moved further into the office to a table. She grabbed a measuring tape. She took a few measurements and scribbled them onto a notepad. "It'll be done in two hours. You can pick it up then."
"Thank you," I left and went back to my room. I rifled through my makeup and jewellery but until I saw the dress I wouldn't know what would go with it. I gave up and retreated to the balcony. I leant over the railing and looked down at the garden. The fountain in the middle glinted in the moonlight. I decided to take a shower and let my hair air dry while I waited for the dress to be done. I traced my fingers along my tattoo. Tonight's my big night. I pulled down my icon menu and ran a check on myself. Nothing unusual. Then what made me different? I sighed and ran a hand through my damp hair. I stood up and left my room. I might as well go see if my dress is done. On my way down I heard voices. I stopped and listened carefully.
"Bringing her here is dangerous," someone hissed.
"Her powers are best suited as a Keeper. No doubt about that," another replied. I was pretty sure the second voice belonged to Sylvia.
"But you're risking so much!" the other voice exclaimed.
"No one knows." Sylvia snapped, "And as long as you keep this a secret she will be safe. The palace is the safest place."
"There are loopholes. You know the system isn't perfect." the other voice countered.
"It's good enough," they turned the corner and stopped when they saw me. It was Sylvia and… my grandmother.
"Destiny!" she came over and hugged me, "It's so good to see you!"
"You too," I hugged her back, "What are you doing here?"
"I came for the ball of course," she smiled. I had known he was a higher ranking vampire but I din't know exactly what she was. She was over a hundred years old but didn't look a day over twenty in the human world.
"You're coming?" I asked.
"Of course!" he exclaimed. "I wouldn't turn down this invite."
"Umm… I need to go pick up my dress," I said.
"Go on then." she placed a hand on my shoulder. "I'll see you later."
My dress was ready. I was in a dress bag waiting for me.
"Thank you!" I exclaimed.
"My pleasure," she smiled. "I'm Adrienne by the way."
"Destiny," I said.
