Over the next few days Eve got better and I continued to go with Alexis to school. I was kind of worried about Alexis because she seemed kind of distant but I never brought anything up about it. When Theodore returned I had to fill him in on everything. With him here, I finally caught a break. Rhys and I got to spend more time together and Eve gradually regained her strength. I knew Eve couldn't stay forever but I didn't really want her to leave.
"Do you know who your new charge is?" I asked Eve at the door.
"No, but I'll find out when I get back to the protectors." Eve smiled.
"Be careful and remember---," I started.
"I know, I know. I won't tell anyone about the Keepers. I promised I wouldn't." She interrupted.
"I'm going to miss you. Promise you'll visit?" I asked.
"Of course I'll visit." Eve hugged me. "I'd better go. Bye Des."
"Bye." I waved as she went to the car waiting for her. I headed upstairs but then stopped when I felt the dispatch open. I ran downstairs as Rhys exited the platform. I ran up and hugged him.
"You're finally back." Rhys had been gone a week on a task.
"Yeah. I thought I'd never be back." He sighed.
"So how was it?" I asked.
"Hard. I swear, every time I go, they get stronger." He shook her head. "How was your week?"
"Okay." I shrugged. "Eve just left."
"I didn't make it back to wish her goodbye?" He fake pouted.
"Don't worry," I punched him in the arm, "she'll come visit."
"Hope so." He grinned. We went up to his room and I stood on the balcony looking over at everyone downstairs while he showered and changed. Rhys snuck up on me and pecked my cheek.
"Hey! No stealing kisses." I mocked anger and attempted to punch him in the arm but he dodged.
"Would you rather me do this then?" Before I could say anything he swooped in and kissed me. I melted into him. He was the one that broke the kiss.
"I'd much rather you do that." I smiled. A ringing in my head broke the moment. I groaned and pulled up my icon menu.
"Sylvia." Rhys sounded sad.
"Come on. Let's go." We walked out of this room and up to Sylvia's office. The door was ajar so I pushed in open. Grandma was there, so was mother and father. Rhys shut the door softly behind him.
"Rhys." Sylvia said. "You are not required to be here."
Rhys was about to leave when I spoke up. "Let him stay."
Father looked like he wanted to yell at me for going against the Queen.
"If you wish him to, he may." She nodded. Rhys came and stood next to me. I slipped my hand into his. "You probably want to know why I have called you here. The truth is you don't know the truth. Nor do your parents."
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"The truth is, I'm not your grandmother." Grandma said.
"Then who are you?" The question didn't come from me. I came from mother.
"I'm just a friend of your mothers'." She said.
"Who's my mother then?" Mother asked.
"She's standing before you." My head snapped towards Sylvia.
