"Ms. Graft?" Alexis stuck her head into the office after knocking loudly.
"Alexis," she gestured towards the chairs. Alexis sat in on while I stood a little bit behind her.
"Umm… This is Destiny. She is stepping in for Theodore for a month," Alexis said.
Ms. Graft nodded, "Miss… uh…"
"Avon," I supplied.
"Miss Avon, I believe you, like Mr Thome, will follow Alexis to class only. Am I correct? You will not be in interruption to any classes." It took me a second to recall the Theodore's surname was Thome.
"Yes." I nodded.
"You seem rather young to be here as a guard," she looked me over. I clasped my hands behind my back just incase she might see my tattoo.
"I am eighteen. This is my first year as a guard." I stated. She mused on it before dismissing us.
"She seems… distant," I whispered as we left.
"You'll get used to it," Alexis sighed.
"Lex!" I tensed as someone came running into Alexis. I relaxed when I saw Alexis smile.
"Hey Jamie," she said.
"Where have you been? I've been so lonely here on my own," the girl, Jamie I presume, whined.
"What about Liane?" Alexis asked to move the topic from why she was away.
"Her parents took her to England," Jamie sighed. "She's so lucky."
"Yeah," Alexis nodded. The bell rang and students all over moved around trying to get to class.
"There are this many people in the night classes?" I asked Alexis using my telepathy.
"Yeah," she replied. "Most of them are rich though."
I spent the night following Alexis from class to class, standing at the back of the class. No one noticed me, thankfully and I thought everything was going good until I got to the class before break. One of the girls passed and note to another and they kept passing it along. I narrowed my eyes at the girl who wrote the note, frustrated that, unlike with vampires, humans were not marked at birth so I'd have to look up her on my system which can't be done in plain sight. The note had finally reached Alexis and I watched her as she read it. Alexis gasped and ran out of the class. Instantly I followed her. I jogged behind at a human speed as I followed her down halls.
"Alexis!" I called but she kept running. She turned into a door and I followed. It was the bathroom. From behind the closed stall I heard crying. "Alexis," I soothed, "Open the door."
There was sniffling behind the door.
"Alexis." I repeated. The teacher finally entered into the bathroom.
"Is she in there?" she asked. I nodded.
"Alexis," she said, "Come out of there."
Still, she didn't open the door. The teacher was about to say something again but I put up my hand to stop her.
"Lexi," I said softly, using the nickname Theodore used. Telepathically is said, "Come out. You can't stay in there all night. Please."
"I don't want to," came her reply.
"Please," I asked one more time. I heard the bolt slide aside and Alexis came out, her eyes raw from crying. I knelt down in front of her. "What did it say?"
