"Mary, we're going now."
"Coming!"
As he turned to look over he was just in time to witness a girl similar to Marylyn being pulled down the street by a black haired boy. At a glance it seemed like they were going to continue down the road, but at the last second, the girl pulled the boy into an alley. As she did so, Haren was able to get a clear view of her face.
Well, good news is: now I know why she looks like Mary. Bad news is: now I have to follow them.
"Was that Marylyn just now?" August asked.
"Yeah." Haren nodded." I'm gonna go after them, ok?"
"'Kay. I'll meet up with you at the inn," August waved and walked down the street.
Hurrying to the next street over, Haren saw the two of them duck into the next alley and scale a stack of crates. When they disappeared over the edge of the roof, he saw that there was a torn bit of red fabric hanging from the corner of a broken shingle. Part of Marylyns' cloak, which confirmed it was her.
Must have torn it while climbing, He thought, following their path up.
From his vantage point, he could smell Marylyn on the wind blowing in his face and followed the scent. After a five-minute walk across the tops of buildings, he jumped down to a street by a narrow alleyway, hidden from sight of the road by a stack of crates and barrels. Leaning against the tall stack, he knocked on one of the barrels. There was a gasp from one of them that was cut short by the other as the first was hushed.
"You can come out now," Haren called to them." They aren't chasing you anymore."
"Haren!" Marylyn vaulted over a crate and knelt in front of him.
"You ok?" He asked, patting her head.
Marylyn nodded and stood up," I'm sorry for running away."
"Hey, wait." Haren turned to see the black haired boy standing behind him." It's my fault. I should've been more careful."
"It's fine. No one got hurt, just be more careful next time," Haren said.
"But still, is there any way I can make it up to you?" The boy asked." I'll do whatever I can."
"Come with me," Haren turned and started walking down the street with Marylyn in tow. He didn't look back to see if the boy was following or not.
"Haren? Thank you for coming to get me," Marylyn said quietly after a few moments. Haren looked over at her to see her gaze trained to the ground.
"Mary...give me your hand," Haren offered her his hand and, while she looked confused, Marylyn took it.
"Why?" She asked.
"I don't want you getting lost again. That's all," Haren replied.
Marylyn smiled," Thank you."AN: Sorry it took so long to update this chapter. I actually got a bit sick and was stuck doing other things. I will try to update five more chapters today to make up for the days I've missed. Hopefully, from now on I can keep up with at least two new chapters a day.
I hope you are enjoying OSW so far.
Please continue to read and enjoy
Or don't it's up to you.
Was that sarcasm? I'll let you decide.
