That day still rings with resonance in my ears,
I was called to action in the midst of hell,
The burning ground,
The blistering heat,
The sweat coursed down my brow,
Burning down to my soul.
The cries of anguish rang harshly in my ears,
Of those who could cry out,
Yet there you laid so peacefully on the ground,
Quietly as in a deep slumber.
I rushed to your side for signs of life,
Yet none could be found beneath my fingers.
Your broken body laid before my eyes,
Like a childs discarded doll,
Nothing to be done but pray.
Pray for your heavenly rest,
Nestled in the arms of angels,
In your forever rest.
May God now take your hands,
And set you by his side,
For you have seen the end of war,
Take your rest now my weary friends.
