The sights from that distant day,
Linger still within my mind,
The thoughts as your body fell,
Burned still within my brain,
I rushed to your side,
To ease your fall,
Your body heavy in my arms.
The ragged breaths,
The fading light,
Within your broken eyes,
I did what I could to ease your pain,
Although your life was fleeting,
I cared for you til you left us there,
On the wings of angels.
What could I have done,
To have made a change,
In the way things went that day,
For those brothers left,
And your wife and child,
I would have given mine,
So they could see you again.
Rest easy now my brother,
In the sweet release of time,
Till we meet again upon the green.
