NamjoonAh, the Han River I thought calmly. There's no one I'd rather be here with then Daeji. "I love your smile" her voices echoes in my mind. My heart lurched when she said love. And my smile at that? She's bluffing. I can't shake it though. Her voice driving me insane, her eyes twinkling slightly. Butterflies nudge against my stomach making me feel a bit nauseous.
After walking for what seems like forever we finally arrived at the bonfire spot. A wave of nostalgia hits me when I think about my younger years. Running amongst my childhood friends and getting into trouble. Such innocence I used to hold. Something I long for still— the beauty of ignorance. Enjoying each day and not worrying of the future. Just living in the moment.
Ahem. "Dreamer boy, whatcha thinking about?" Daeji said playfully.
I was taken by surprise. I didn't mean to get so lost in thought.
I chuckle awkwardly. "Sorry about that. Just thinking about life and its woes. " I moan dramatically.
I take her hand and sit on a log by the burnt bonfire. Shivering into my long black coat I turn and look at her. The sun shining in her eyes. Reflecting the yellow honey specks in her dark brown eyes. I smile and contemplate telling her how I truly feel about her. Friend to friend. Casual. Just getting it off my chest and if the feeling isn't mutual then I'll pretend it never happened.
I grab Daeji's hand and feel her delicate hand in mine. I always used to tell her she reminded me of a china doll. So beautiful and small.
"Hey Daeji. Is it cool if I talk to you about something?" I ask hesitantly.
"Yeah sure go ahead. Is everything alright?" She looked at me with eyes of concern.
"Yeah everything's fine! I just been meaning to tell you something. It keeps slipping my mind because of work and school and-" I ramble nervously.
"Namjoon, you're making me nervous! What is it?" She whines impatiently.
My nervousness dissipated and confidence filled my heart. I have to do this. I coached myself through my tremors.
"Daeji, I want to tell you I—" I immediately got interrupted by a husky voice from across the field.
"DAEJI! Daeji, is that you?!" The man said from afar.
"Wait, what?" Daeji whispered to her self.
She stood up to get a closer look at who was calling her name. I got into defensive mode and stood behind her. The man approached us wearing a long brown coat and strangely attractive gold rimmed glasses. He also wore a light colored beret to match his attire. He had good taste but I still internally rolled my eyes.
"Well I'm appalled! You don't remember me?" The man joked.
"Uh nope. Sorry. Must of not been that memorable" She replies sarcastically. She flashes a devilish grin and I instantly smile. Good job Daeji.
"Well it has been 5 years and some months but who's counting-" he chuckles. "I do remember that spirit however. We went to high school together remember? Mrs. Soohyun's class? '13?"
"Oh my god. I faintly remember that. You were the class clown! Always getting yelled at but always making people laugh." She laughs.
"I don't mean to interrupt but I was having a conversation with my friend Mr.—?" Namjoon interjected. Daeji shot me a side glance in horror.
"Taehyung. Kim Taehyung. It's a pleasure to meet you hyung. I'm sorry to interrupt." He politely remarked.
"I'm sure we can continue his conversation later Namjoon. " She said curtly.
"Of course Daeji." I sigh deeply as fear knocks my bravery back into it small little box.
"Taehyung. This is Namjoon, my best friend." Daeji announced. "Would you like to join us? We were just walking around. "
"Sure!" Tae said excitedly.
My eyes practically bulged out of my sockets. My insides writhing in jealousy.
And then there were three.
