What changed?

Chapter 4

On the outskirts of the Mystic Ruins and built partially into a cliffside is the home and workshop of a young fox by the name of Miles Prower, Sonic's best friend and little brother. 

Miles or "Tails" as most people call him was born with a genetic defect that gave him two tails instead of one. Fortunately, Tails learned how to use this defect to his advantage and overtime has used his tails to do many things from flying like a helicopter to fighting baddies.

Tails and Sonic first met while facing off against Dr Eggman when he was still known as Dr Robotnik. Together and with the help of Knuckles, an enemy turned ally, Sonic and Tails brought down the Death Egg, a doomsday weapon built in Dr Eggman' s own likeness, and the two of them had been best buds ever since.

A child prodigy with a knowledge of machines said to be on par with that of Dr Eggman, Tails had invented, modified and piloted many mechanical wonders over the years. From a handheld communication device to a plane that could transform into a mechanical walker, there appeared to be no limit to what Tails could do with his potential.

Over the last six years, Tails had grown from Sonic's sidekick into Sonic's equal and became a hero in his own right. It was something Tails couldn't help but feel proud of.

Personality wise Tails hadn't changed much other than becoming more mature. Though he had grown from boy genius to teen genius, he was still a good friend to those he knew and was always willing to help others when they needed it.

Appearance wise however Tails had gotten taller, almost as tall as Sonic was now. His tails were longer, his voice was slightly deeper due to puberty and like Sonic he started wearing more than just his gloves and shoes.

Nowadays his usual attire consists of a black t-shirt, blue jeans and a simple black wristwatch on his left wrist which he was checking right now to see if Sonic was going to be late for dinner.

Tails tapped his right foot impatiently as he counted down the seconds.

"3...2...1..."

"Honey I'm home!" said a familiar voice as it sped through the door.

Without even turning around Tails knew who it was.

"You were almost late you know." Said Tails with an annoyed look.

"Hey, I wear a watch too you know!" Sonic exclaimed.

"Besides why would I be late for dinner when chili dogs are on the menu?" He finished with a grin.

Tails chuckled "Alright speedy boy blue take your seat at the table, so you can tell me about your day."

So, the two friends sat down and talked about each other's days. Eventually the conversation shifted from Tails' latest invention to Sonic's encounter with Amy.

"So, what happened" Asked Tails while taking a bite of his chili dog.

"Well I was happy to see her of course but as I looked at her, all the memories of when we were younger, all the times she gave me those death hugs and all the times she badgered me for dates started rushing through my head.  I don't know why but for some reason, I missed those days." Sonic frowned while folding his ears back.

"Really, you actually missed all those times when she almost hugged the life out of you along with all the times she pursued you for dates and for your hand in marriage!?" Said Tails shocked.

"I know, right!?  It's so weird!  Anyway, as I continued looking at her, I then started thinking of how well she had matured over the years not just physically but mentally too." Said Sonic as he finished his second chili dog.

"She's really come a long way hasn't she?"

"She sure has little buddy."

Tails nodded as he took his plate and glass to the sink before he sat back down.

"So, then what happened?" Tails asked.

"Well for some reason I think I zoned out or at least that's what Amy said happened." Sonic finished.

"I see."

"Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me figure out why I did that by giving me your input and telling me what you think?"

"Well I'm always happy to help Sonic.  I'll see what I can do." Tails smiled.

Sonic smiled back "Thanks little bro."

So Tails sat back, crossed his arms, lowered his head and closed his eyes to do some thinking while Sonic sat impatiently waiting for an answer.  Eventually Tails opened his eyes and raised his head, indicating that he had an answer.

"Have you figured something out?" Asked Sonic.

"I think I have." Said Tails.

"Well then "good doctor" hit me with the diagnosis!" Said Sonic jokingly while taking a sip of water.

Ignoring the joke Tails continued "Well you're probably going to think I'm crazy but......Sonic......I think you may have developed feelings for Amy."
