"Um, Sonic? Soniiiiic? Earth to Sonic come in please." Said Amy snapping her fingers in Sonic's face.
"Huh!? Huh!? What!? What Happened!?" said Sonic finally coming back to reality.
"You looked like you had zoned out for a moment. Are you okay?" said Amy worriedly.
Sonic had no idea how it happened. While he was looking at Amy, he recalled all the times she chased him, all the adventures she had joined him and their other friends on and how well she had matured physically and mentally over the years and the next thing he knew his mind was on another planet.
'Well this is a first.' Sonic thought to himself.
When he saw Amy's worried look however, he decided he would figure it all out later and maybe go see Tails to see what he thinks. But for now, the last thing Sonic wanted or needed was someone worrying about him.
"C'mon Amy of course I'm alright. I was just thinking of something that's all." Said Sonic reassuringly.
"What were you thinking about?" asked Amy.
"Oh, just how I could really go for a chili dog right now." Said Sonic showing off his trademark grin.
Amy giggled and rolled her eyes "Oh Sonic what is it with you and chili dogs?"
Sonic kept grinning "They're my favorite food Ames. Shouldn't you know that by now?"
Amy giggled again "I do Sonic. I know all too well."
Sonic chuckled "Anyway what do you say we talk about other stuff?"
Amy smiled and winked "I say 'Why not'."
So Sonic and Amy spent the rest of the day walking side by side through town while talking about various things from friends to food to everything that's been going on their lives lately.
Eventually the conversation shifted to Amy's love life. Amy had been on many dates and had a decent number of boyfriends over the years. Her last boyfriend was apparently a real gentleman according to Amy.
"He really knew how to treat me like a lady." Amy said while blushing.
"If he's such a Prince Charming then how did you guys become exes?" Asked Sonic.
Amy frowned "There just wasn't much of a connection. I knew it, he knew it, so we ended it. Fortunately, it was on good terms."
Sonic didn't know why but he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief that went unnoticed by Amy.
"It's always like this. My relationships never seem to last for more than a few months either because there's little to no connection or because I always feel like there's something missing." Said Amy with a sigh of her own.
"Hey don't sweat it Ames." Said Sonic.
Amy looked up at Sonic with a puzzled look.
"So your last relationship was a flop. It's no biggie."
"What do you mean Sonic?"
"There's plenty of fish out there in the sea. All you gotta do is cast out another line."
Amy couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"Sonic do you have any idea how corny you just sounded?"
"I'm just saying that you shouldn't give up so easily. The Amy I know would never give up. No matter how many times she got knocked down she would always get right back up and keep on going."
Slowly Amy began to smile.
"Maybe you're right Sonic."
'And maybe just maybe I was a fool to have given up on us ever being together.' Amy thought.
"C'mon Ames I'm always right." Said Sonic showing off his trademark grin yet again along with a wink and a thumbs up.
Amy giggled and rolled her eyes again.
"Suuuure you are."
Sonic laughed "Okay almost always but at least I got you smiling again."
Amy smiled "You sure did Sonikku. You sure did."
Sonic chuckled "Well that's one nickname I haven't heard in who knows how long."
Amy giggled "Oh Sonic."
Amy then went up to Sonic and gave him a hug. Not one of her death hugs mind you but a real heartfelt hug. Sonic had to admit that it felt good to receive a hug from Amy that wasn't breaking his bones or squeezing the air out of his lungs.
So Sonic returned the favor and hugged her back.
After a while of being in each other's arms they looked up at the sky to see that it had turned orange and red.
They both checked their watches to see that it was getting late. So they decided to call it a day.
"Well I should be heading home now. Wouldn't want to miss my favorite shows after all." Said Amy
"Yeah and Tails is likely almost done making dinner." Said Sonic.
Amy smirked "Chili dogs?"
Sonic smirked back "What else?"
They both shared a laugh.
"Hey um, Sonic?"
"Yes Amy?
Amy then kissed Sonic's cheek catching him off guard.
"Thanks for spending time with me today." Amy smiled as she walked away.
Sonic placed his hand on the cheek where she kissed him and smiled back.
"Anytime Ames. Anytime."
