What changed?

Chapter 5

The moment those words came out of Tails' mouth, the water Sonic was drinking came out of his mouth and right into Tails' face

"FEELINGS!?" Said Sonic in shock.

Annoyed, Tails wiped the water that was spat in his face with a napkin while confirming "Yes."

"What kind of feelings?" Sonic asked.

"Feelings of love, of course!" Said Tails with a smirk.

Sonic's eyes widened as he blushed redder than Knuckles. He then shook his head as he frowned.

"You're right Tails, you are crazy!" He replied.

"C'mon Sonic, what other feelings could they be?" Tails asked.

"I don't know, maybe feelings of nostalgia for when we were younger or feelings of a bond between siblings?" Sonic wondered.

"You're not certain of either of those possibilities, are you?" Tails said knowingly.

Sonic lowered his head, knowing that he'd been found out.

"Alright, you got me. But you can't be certain that what I'm feeling is love either." Sonic smirked.

Tails smirked back "True, but there's only one way for you to figure out what those feelings are."

"And what would that be?" Sonic asked.

"By going out with her, duh!" Tails retorted.

It was at that moment that Sonic's jaw hit the floor.

"Y-Y-You can't be serious!" he stammered.

"I am serious. But if it will make you feel any better the relationship doesn't have to be permanent." Tails said.

"What do you mean?" Asked Sonic concerned.

"You can simply date her until you figure out your feelings. If what you feel for her isn't love and if it doesn't work out between you two then you can go right back to being friends." Tails answered.

Sonic still felt uncomfortable "Well, even if I did want to go out with her what if she doesn't want to go out with me?"

"What do you mean?" Tails asked.

"Well, it's pretty obvious she's gotten over me given how many guys she's been dating over the years. Heck for all I know she's probably got another boyfriend right now!" Sonic replied.

"Then just ask her if she's single before asking her out!" Tails retorted as if the answer was obvious.

"But...but..." Sonic tried to say.

"But what?" Tails asked.

"What if I'm not the man she wants?"

"Like I said, if it doesn't work out you guys can end it and you can go right back to being friends.  But c'mon Sonic, you have so many good qualities, who wouldn't want a man like you?"

Sonic grinned and chuckled "Good point!"

"Besides Sonic, wouldn't it be worth it to see Amy smile?"

Sonic then thought of all the times she smiled.  Whenever she was happy, she always seemed to put others in a happy mood too especially Sonic.

'He's right.  It would definitely be worth it.' Thought Sonic with a smile.

"Alright Tails,  I'll do it but on one condition." He replied

"Name it." Tails said.

"I want you to ask Cream out." Sonic smirked.

"WHAT!?" Tails said in shock.

"You heard me." Sonic said.

"W-What makes you think I have feelings for Cream?" Asked Tails still recovering from the shock.

"I've been seeing you over at Cream's house more often than usual lately.  I get the feeling that even if there's nothing going on between you two yet there soon will be." Sonic grinned.

"I'm just helping Miss Vanilla with chores around her house!  I mean it's not easy being a single parent." Tails replied while blushing.

"Ohhhhh I see.  You want to get in good graces with your future mother-in-law so she can give you and Cream her blessing." Sonic grinned wider while raising his eyebrows suggestively.

"SONIC!!!"

"C'mon Tails, if I'm going to ask Amy out it's only fair that you ask Cream out." Sonic finished.

Tails lowered his head and closed his eyes to mull it over.  Eventually he opened his eyes, raised his head and smirked.

"Deal."

"Shall we shake on it?" Sonic said as he extended his left hand.

Tails extended his left hand and together they shook on the deal.

"You gotta admit Tails, I really turned the tables on you there." Sonic smirked.

Tails rolled his eyes "Alright wise guy, let's the hay.  We both have big days tomorrow."

Sonic chuckled and smiled "Seriously though, thanks for helping me with this little bro."

Tails smiled back "Anytime big bro.  Anytime."

As they walked up to their bedrooms Tails said "Hey Sonic?"

"Yeah?"

"If things do work out between you and Amy, can I be your best man?" Tails smirked.

Sonic smirked back and winked "Only if I get to be your best man."

Tails winked back "Deal."

After shaking on their second deal they went into their respective bedrooms and called it a night.
