The smell of coffee reached his nose again and he inhaled the warmth against the chilly air. Window booths at the cafe were his favorite. Bustle of people waking up throughout the city, strange clothes, customs and patterns. As he slid in the booth Cindy May placed a steaming cup of black coffee before him with a kind smile and a pat on his shoulder.

Today everything seemed so much brighter, and he knew exactly why. Two weeks had gone by since he had gained a new neighbor and a new friend.

Charlotte West has easily become one of the happiest aspects of his day outside of his team. The little odd ball of a woman had an unusual habit of making the modern world hilariously fun. On her first day ( even though he said he was fine) she invited him in for pizza ( because it had bacon) and a cold beer. Hours of talking later and he decided he had never felt more human since he had woken up.

The University she was teaching at was one of the things that made her eyes light up when she talked. (Steve had begun to keep a mental list) Accepting the job as a astrophysics professor for undergrads was something she was exceedingly happy to talk about. Steve was thankful he had picked up some terms from Banner and Selvig enough to understand a little of what she said.

It was certainly a shock when he almost ran (literally) into her again the next morning after he met her. Coming back from his run she had almost collided with him. Blue jeans and boots replaced with a red, black and white dress, auburn hair pulled half atop her head and the rest falling to her waist in curls, black heels clicked. She had been stunning. It had taken a moment for Steve to stop stuttering and he blush to fade. And only a second more for them to bust into laughter at their hilarious faces.

Steve would always remember the blush on her cheeks, and the grin, when he plucked up the courage after saying goodnight to her, a round of movies and Thai food behind them is if she had wanted to grab some coffee after work. Nerves had erupted in his stomach and he wanted to take it back for the sake of not ruining his new found friend, a million thoughts had jammed in his mind, the last time he had asked was with the blonde, Kate, two floors down. And that had gone exceedingly bad.

To his surprise, she had said yes with the same smile as bacon pizza.

The weather was getting colder, Steve shuddered internally. He used to love the cold, fall, winter, didn't matter, he and Bucky would play in the snow for as long as they could. Steve usually got the sniffles over it. Since the accident, the old seemed more of a nightmarish reminder of waking up all over again.

A honking of a cab caught his attention as he noticed the flurry of cars passing by. She was there then. On the other side of the street. Leaves blew at her feet as she watched carefully for the light to change. He always admired the way she dressed. Dark black pants coupled with an oversized emerald green sweater, black boots with the silver buckles she loved and wore often, a dark black coat that came to her knees and an emerald green scarf. She carried a sachet across her body he had seen before, filled with papers and binders from the university. Charlotte looked beautiful, and is he was cold she was probably freezing.

With the coast clear of cars ,the little flash of red curls bolted across the street. Narrowly missing a silver car that honked at her and caused Steve's heart to jump clear in his throat. Seeing Charlotte was fine and glaring heartily at the driver he forced himself to remain seated as she continued her walk towards the café.

Cindy May smiled at her and words were exchanged, he couldn't help but notice the strands that fluttered about her face from the wind outside. With a wave of her hand the professor refused her usual seat upstairs, something that caused the older waitresses eyebrows to fly to her hairline. When Charlotte turned towards him the older woman let out a sly grin.
