Having a friend since elementary school into high school is rare. Most of the time you drift apart or forget about each other or they find "better" friends and leave you in the dust.
However, that didn't happen to me.
I meet my best friend 10 years ago in elementary school. It was an odd friendship. I was shy and barely talked while she was outgoing and talked A LOT. She basically was and still is a female version of Alexander Hamilton. Once she started wearing a hijab a lot of people made fun of her and called her names. I was one of the few to stick by her side and defend her. I was also one of the first Jewish people she had ever met as well. Being Jewish and Asian made for a great conversation starter!
Ever since then we have been inseparable! We made many good and bad memories together but we have always stuck by each others side no matter what. She was there when I had my first heartbreak and she was there to tell me if I should go after a certain guy or not (advice which I really didn't listen to). I was there for her when a family tragedy hit her pretty hard and I was there when people teased and hurt her emotionally.
10 years! Look how far we have come! Yet, some of the best moments and jokes in our lives still haven't been made...until we wandered into the book section of Target.
