Kurt opened his eyes slowly. The fogginess left his brain, and he realized that Blaine's arm was wrapped around his shoulders.
He looked around the small bedroom of Blaine's New York City shoebox apartment. The double bed they were laying in was covered with a navy duvet, the walls a plain white. Blaine had covered them with posters for different Broadway musicals.
Kurt slipped out of Blaine's hold and out of bed, grabbing his black t-shirt and jeans. He got dressed quickly and quietly, checking his hair in the mirror. It had that 'I just had sex' look that Kurt liked.
Kurt laced up his red Converse and tried to leave the room without waking Blaine.
"Leaving so soon?" Blaine whispered from the bed. He stretched up and positioned his hands behind his head.
"It's gonna cost you extra for more," Kurt replied. He reached over to the dresser and grabbed the cash Blaine had laid out the night before. He pocketed it.
Blaine sat up. "I had a really good time last night. Are you always that passionate?"
Kurt shrugged. "I don't discuss my work with my clients," he said, half joking, half serious.
He tried to leave the bedroom again. "Can I get you some coffee or something?" Blaine called, sitting up a little more urgently.
"I'll just go to the Starbucks across the street." Kurt walked out of the room before Blaine could stop him again. His jacket was thrown over an armchair. Kurt grabbed it and put it on. He rolled his eyes when he heard quick footsteps from the bedroom.
"You're really going?" Blaine was standing in the bedroom doorway wearing boxer shorts and a blue bathrobe. Kurt guessed it was his favorite color.
"I'm really going. If you want another night, I'm available. You have my number."
Blaine had a strange look on his face. "I had a really fun time last night. Maybe we could make it a regular thing," he said, slowly stepping closer to Kurt.
Kurt looked him over. "I have to make a living, Blaine," he whispered.
"I'm really taken with you, Kurt. Why don't you just go on a date with me? Wait a few minutes and I'll go with you to Starbucks."
Kurt was a little uncomfortable, but intrigued. "Fine. Be quick. If you're not ready in ten minutes, I'm leaving."
Blaine scampered back to his bedroom and emerged a few minutes later in skinny jeans, a red polo shirt, and dress shoes. Kurt thought the outfit was both dorky and hot.
The walk down to the coffee shop was silent and awkward. Kurt and Blaine sat down across from each other once they arrived. Blaine launched the conversation.
"Where are you from?"
"Lima, Ohio. Yeah, I wanted to get out of there as soon as I could. Right after I graduated high school I bought a train ticket to New York and vowed to never go back."
"You should go back for a visit. What about your family?"
"My mom died when I was eight, so it's just my dad. He owns a tire shop. My stepbrother works there with him. His girlfriend used to be my roommate here in New York, actually, until she got a job on a TV show in LA and moved out there." Kurt was getting lost in his memories.
"Anything I would've seen?"
"The show's called That's So Rachel. I think it's stupid and should be cancelled, but it gets enough views that they keep making new episodes." Kurt shrugged.
"I hate that show. I tried to watch it. I couldn't get through the first season." Blaine agreed.
Blaine kept asking Kurt questions about his life in Ohio, occasionally answering them himself. After a few hours in the shop, they noticed that the employees were starting to give them weird looks, so Kurt suggested they leave.
Blaine pushed Kurt against the brick wall next the the Starbucks and kissed him urgently. "Stay with me a little longer."
Kurt leaned into Blaine, pushing his body against him. But he pulled away a moment later. "I can't." He pushed Blaine away by his shoulders and hurried away.
"What the hell, Kurt?" Blaine yelled.
Kurt only went faster. He hailed a cab and jumped in. Blaine ran over to catch up but Kurt told the driver to go quickly.
"Shit!" Blaine shouted.
Kurt sat back in the car and stared out the window for the entirety of the ride to Grand Central Station.
He was going to go back to Ohio.
