Kurt and Blaine were standing on opposite sides of their faux Christmas tree, passing a string of white lights back and forth, wrapping them around the branches. "I still wish we could've gotten a real tree," Blaine said. "They're so beautiful and traditional, and they smell amazing."
"I'm sorry, honey, but I don't want needles all over the floor during the party," Kurt replied. "How about this: next year, when we're married, we can get a real tree. We won't have a party, just a quiet holiday. Does that sound like a compromise?"
Blaine grinned. "Okay. That sounds perfect."
Kurt and Blaine had been engaged for a few months already. Kurt was taking charge on the wedding planning. They'd picked out a date in mid November.
"What time is it?" Kurt asked.
Blaine glanced at his watch. "Almost three. When did we say the party's starting?"
"Five thirty. Finn and Rachel are coming at five, though. They wanted to help set up," Kurt said.
"They don't have to do that. Did you tell them they didn't have to do that? They really don't have to do that," Blaine said quickly.
Kurt chuckled. "Of course I told them. But Finn said they had a little surprise for us."
Blaine's eyes lit up. "Yay!"

Kurt dimmed the lights in the living room and surveyed the scene. Their tree was in front of the window, an array of healthy snacks (Kurt's idea) and Christmas cookies (Blaine's idea) was laid out on the coffee table, and a sprig of mistletoe was pinned up in the corner.
Blaine strode into the room. He was dressed smartly in a deep red dress shirt, black trousers, and a bowtie with Christmas tress on it. Kurt was similarly dressed, wearing a silver dress shirt under a dark green blazer and black trousers. (They planned that).
"You look beautiful," Blaine said softly. He made his way over to the corner of the room. "All of this looks beautiful. You did an amazing job."
Kurt crossed the room to join him. "Don't even think about giving me all the credit."
"Look up," Blaine whispered. Kurt did.
He smiled. They both leaned in for a kiss. "I love you," Kurt breathed.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Blaine walked over. "Open up! It's freezing out here!" It was Finn. Blaine laughed as he opened the door.
"Finn, we live in an apartment."
He shrugged. "Merry Christmas!" Rachel called.
After they'd all exchanged hugs, Finn pulled a little wrapped package out of his jacket. "Surprise!" He waved it around a little.
"You didn't have to bring us anything," Kurt said quickly.
"Actually, this is more for Blaine." He handed it to him. Blaine tore off the paper eagerly. He laughed out loud when he saw what it was.
"Pine scented room spray!" he exclaimed.
Finn grinned. "Rachel won't let me get a real tree either. But this stuff works really well."
Forty-five minutes later, the room was full. There was Christmas music playing, and every face in the room was smiling. The whole glee club was at the party, plus their significant others. Even Mr. Schuester and Emma dropped by for a little with their kids.
Kurt stayed fairly close to his fiance the entire night. Every once in a while, Blaine would whisper something in his ear and they would leave the room for a few minutes, but never for long enough that anyone noticed.
Somehow, after everyone had had a few drinks, the former glee club members broke into a verse of "Extraordinary Merry Christmas".
Even later, the group assembled at the elegant grandfather clock and counted down to midnight as if it was New Year's.
"Merry Christmas," Kurt whispered to Blaine.
