Wings of Fire Mixed Blood (Book 1)

Chapter 10

It is a new day, and I have successfully found the last member of the next "Dragonets of Destiny". Subzero comes into the cave with a bag of scrolls, "Follow me, I need your help to do this." I follow him into the darkness of the cave. As I lose sight, I feel something brush against me. A stick ignites as Subzero pulls the torch closer to him. "If you needed a light, why didn't you just ask." I asked as I saw the cave open up into a well stocked museum. Subzero placed the scrolls on shelves and then explained, "I found this place when I was little, it's my private getaway and full of Icewing artifacts. Maybe there is something in here about the pale one".

He began searching through the scrolls and I decided to look around. Archaic Icewing armor, weapons and maps were everywhere. I took a closer look at some of the engravings on the small ice statues, each statue had the name of a prophecy on it. I then saw a statue that read "Deadly Prophecy". "Subzero come here, I think I found something!" I called to the dragon. He hovered down to the floor below him and I explained my discovery. He gasped as he spoke, "These are the Table of Prophets. An Animus Icewing centuries ago touched a slab of ice to create sculptures of prophecies, to help the future generations prepare for upcoming trouble. If this is here, then the book should be here too." Subzero began to search the nearby area looking for a book.

I watch him worry, wishing I could help, but I don't want to damage anything. "Rumor has it that the Nightwing queen ordered the book to be stolen, it must be true." Subzero concludes as he scratches behind his head. I then remember the story of Everglade's encounter with a Nightwing and a book. I quickly tell him, "I think I know what your talking about. My friends have it outside of this kingdom"! His face lights up and he grabs the statue that was named after our prophecy.

We exit the cave and make our way around the lively tribe. Subzero starts, "So...your a firescale hybrid, how do you...live with such a curse?" This stops me in my tracks. "I don't see my ability as a curse. I could ask you about your prickly spine, but you were born with that skill and you know the pros and cons to it, just as I do with mine." I explain. All of a sudden, a blast of ice lands in front of us. We look around, and find Icewing guards land behind us.

"HALT, YOU ARE INTRUDING IN THE KINGDOM OF QUEEN GLACIER!" A guard commands as he runs towards us. Both of us begin running south, guards are not far behind and firing ice at us. I then realized, that if I come near the wall, I will be killed, but if we split up, Subzero could be captured. "We need to stop, let them catch us. If we don't both of us are in serious trouble." I yell to Subzero as he looks at me in confusion. I slid to a stop as I saw the top of the ice wall. Subzero does the same as the guards surrounded us, "Are your sure you know what your doing?" He asks as we are surrounded. I nod my head and a guard then shouts to his soldiers, "Keep your distance, it's a firescale"!

The soldiers lead us to the prison, where they kept guard on account that the cell was made of ice. As we wait for an audience with the queen, Subzero and I talk. "I understand why you stopped, but now we are in trouble for nothing we did wrong." The fearful Icewing said. I then reply, "I intruded on your kingdom. They are just doing their duties". Subzero retorts, "Their new duties are to see all the tribes as allies and assume they're enemies!" He bested me with that simple truth.

I notice that the light was starting to dim and the queen still hadn't shown. This is the second day, and if they don't show up, they'll think I am dead, or they might try to come and find me. We see the guards bow as the queen finally arrives. Queen Glacier steps in front of our cell and spoke, "My presence was requested, so who wishes to waste my time"? I stepped forward to speak to the aggravated queen, "I wanted to ask if you cou-" the queen interrupted, "How did you get past the wall? It isn't possible! Speak now or freeze where you stand"! I step back in fear that if she does freeze me, I may not melt. "I am a hybrid sea and skywing with firescales, I can withstand the temperature and strength of the winds and sea. I just went around the wall." I answered. Subzero then pled, "My Queen, if you can let us past the wall, you will have your answer to why he is here"! The queen stood there glaring at both of us, contemplating her decision.

She turns her head towards the guard, and they opened the cell door. "If you are lying to me, I will add you to the cave of frozen warriors, and I will personally kill both of you every single day." Glacier threatened before turning and leading to the great ice wall.
