Chapter 7

Even Fake Blood is Thicker than Water

[----]

So I had no idea why Lily had stopped talking to me, no idea why she spent all her time with James instead of me. I was angry with her for not talking to me, for suddenly taking her amazing friendship away from me but still being constantly around with James. So I overcompensated. I spent all of my time with Helen.

Helen's hotness level had gone down rapidly. She was clingy and just slightly crazy. She'd say things like how we'd always be together, and how much she loved me. When it came down to it, I really did have awful taste in women. I either went for hot chicks that were mentally unstable or for nice girls that couldn't commit.

I had decided that I needed to break up with her, and to do it, I took her to the movies. I was going to treat her like a jerk the whole time and hopefully convince her to break up with me. I had picked the type of movie she : A gritty action flick, I had refused to pick her up and she had to meet me at the theater.

When she got there I could tell that she was already pissed with me. She was the kind of girl that wanted her man to give her everything. I had made her pay for her ticket and her food. This was abnormal; usually I was such a gentleman.

We had just gotten out of line for her popcorn, she was huffing and puffing at me and I knew the lecture was coming soon. I was going to get it before the night was out. But at that moment, I got something else, a surprise.

Lily stood across from me, two blue slushies in her hand. She stared at me with wide eyes darting between me and Helen. I realized at that point that the problem hadn't been me; it had something to do with Helen. Helen must have done something to Lily; I didn't have time to process that though. I had finally noticed that someone was standing beside her.

I recognized him immediately, I had seen him at the pool enough; it was her little brother Finn. He was a sixteen year old hotheaded blond. He glared at me as we stood across from each other. The two exchanged glances before Lily looked down to her feet and whispered, "Hi Royce."

Finn groaned and rolled his eyes. "Why are you here?" he growled, sizing me up. I knew what he was thinking and secretly I was thinking it too. I didn't care if this was a patron at my summer pool or a kid just two years younger than me. He was going to get hit if he wasn't careful.

Lily nudged him and shot him a warning glance. "We're here to see a movie," Helen answered for me. She linked her arm with mine and I couldn't help but be angry. This girl had done something to Lily and she was touching me. However, I could use this to my advantage.

"Yeah," I echo trying to smile through my anger. "We're on another date, we're going to see that new action flick, what are you guys doing here?"

Lily was frowning. "It's our monthly brother-sister night and what a coincidence, we're seeing that one too."

The smile on my face must have ticked everyone off cause while I was beaming everyone else looked upset. Lily was sulking, Helen had turned a bright red and Finn was already cracking his knuckles. "We should totally sit together," I say quickly.

"Ew, why would we want to sit with you?" Finn snarled.

Lily nudged him again, before looking down at my shoes. "If it's fine with Helen, then I suppose we can sit together."

She raised her eyes to me and everyone turned to Helen who was glaring at her. She rolled her eyes before she said, very begrudgingly might I add, "Sure, fine, why not?" Finn groaned and pulled Lily off, and I let them lead the way. Helen pulled me close and asked, "That's her little brother? He looks nothing like her."
