I didn't know this at the time, but Connor Wolsten was still very much a threat to my perfect relationship with Lily. It didn't take the idiot long to realize he missed Lily, but he was too proud to make the first move...okay let's be honest, it wasn't pride it was laziness. The dude never wanted to make the effort for anyone, least of all Lily.

Seeing Lily not only with me but with James, seemingly having forgotten all about him, set his body on fire in a way he had never expected. He had realized, the moment he saw Lily and James in a passionate good-bye hug, that he had overlooked a deeper feeling he had been suppressing. He actually liked Lily... as more than just a friend.

So, he had started texting her. The first text he sent she didn't respond to. He waited two days before sending a second. When she didn't respond to that one, Connor started texting her once a day to see when she would. After a week and half of nothing, Connor got desperate.

Connor stole her notebook filled with all her notes on her newest story. He ransomed it for a coffee date, something she had bugged him to go on endlessly while they were "friends". She showed up at the coffee place, she ripped the notebook out of his hands and then beat him with it before storming out.

After that disastrous encounter, Connor had all but given up on Lily, there was nothing he could do to make it up to her, to show her that he cared. He often thought about Lily, what he could say to her when he got the chance and though it was summer, he tried not to let the knowledge that he gave up a perfectly good relationship with an amazing girl ruin his summer.

As I mentioned before, Connor was a lifeguard during the summer he worked at an outdoor pool by the lake. He was pretty far from Lily's area. He didn't expect to see her randomly wandering around his area, let alone at his pool. But at eight o'clock one morning in July, while he was vacuuming the pool she appeared beside him.

I wasn't here for this of course; all that I'm telling you now is what I heard from both Lily and James later on that summer. I don't know how true it is, seeing as most of it is what Connor told Lily, so I wouldn't be surprised if all of this is lies, but here we go.

All she had asked was if he wanted help vacuuming but Connor had been so startled by Lily's sudden appearance that he jumped and ended up losing his footing and falling into the pool, crashing into the water in his clothes, with his music player and his phone in his pocket. He resurfaced and she was still there, his beautiful Lily covering her mouth as she tried not to laugh.

"Are you okay?" she asked as he swam towards the wall. Of course he was alright, she was there wasn't she? In fact she was even smiling at him, sure it took him falling into his pool fully clothed with all his electronics on him to get her to smile or to talk to him, but in his mind it was almost sort of worth it.

"You know, my leg kind of hurts, do you think you could help me get out?" he asked. Lily nodded offering him a hand. This was a good sign, it meant she was still blindly trusting. He took a hold of it and yanked her into the pool fully clothed. She shrieked in horror, falling into the pool and into his arms, luckily his summer pool wasn't very deep and he could stand. He smiled at her as her arms encircled his neck.

"I missed you Lily," he whispered, his cheeks hot, he wanted to kiss her, god those lips should have been his.

"You're a complete moron." She growled pushing away from him and getting out of the pool. Connor followed her, he could tell she was upset, it was in the way her blue eyes had shined and the way her pink lips had twitched into a frown. "Which towel is yours?" she asked. Connor pointed to the blue one and Lily pulled it off the hook and vanished into the washroom. Connor couldn't believe his luck, his Lily was here, she must have been filling in for the day. This was his chance to make everything better. Lily came out of the washroom, she stormed past him to drop her wet clothes outside the door, Connor could already feel his heart beating wildly out of control in his chest. She was naked underneath his towel. "I'm going to borrow your clothes, that cool?"
