Both James and I were furious at Lily, I more so then he. I almost didn't go to the lifeguard bash at all, but I wasn't one to give up a chance to drink and party with hot wasted girls. The night was pretty much standard for the two of us, we went to the party and split ways. I went straight for the alcohol, and James went straight for the girls.

Lily on the other hand was very excited to be going to the lifeguard bash for once. Usually she avoided the whole event, she didn't like the pre-drinks, she didn't like the bar it was held in, she didn't like crowds, or half the people in this particular crowd, but tonight she'd be going with her long time crush, Connor. She got herself all dolled up, did her make-up and hair especially for him, got herself in her sexiest casual outfit and then met him at the bash.

They had a good time at first. He laughed with her, she convinced him to dance a little bit, and then he left her briefly to go get a drink. He waved at her from the bar and Lily couldn't help but smile. This was everything she wanted, it felt so right being with Connor, like they were more than compatible.

She looked away for not even one minute, just long enough to say hello to some co-worker and when she looked back Connor was making out with someone else. He had his tongue down Tara Dowley's throat. For a moment Lily couldn't breathe, James had been right, he hadn't changed his mind, this was just some awful horrible game and she had fallen for it. Her first instinct was to run, but she didn't head to the door, no she'd have to go past them to get to the door and she couldn't do that. She did want him to see how upsetting this was for her.

Lily sprinted out onto the patio, tears were already stinging her eyes, and she didn't want to cry in front of these people. At that moment, James had separated from the group of girls he had been flirting with to go and get them drinks. Lily spotted him just as she heard Connor calling her name. She went straight for James, getting to him and burying her tear stained cheeks into his chest.

James stood there a moment before putting his hands to her quaking shoulders. "Lily? What's the matter?"

Lily wiped her tears away, leaving mascara streaks under her eyes. "You were right, you were right! He was making out with Tara Dowley, literally right in front of me."

"Tara Dowley?" James repeated, his eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. "Are you okay?"

"I just want to go home!" Lily sobbed.

James looked around and then back to Lily who was crying into her hands. He took a hold of her upper arm and dragged her along, "Come on, come with me," he ordered. He almost got to the door when he heard Connor coming in close, calling for Lily. Desperate James pinned Lily against the wall. "Sorry," he murmured, and then he pressed his lips to hers.

Unlike my kiss with Lily, this one got passionate. Tongues went places they shouldn't have, and Lily responded almost eagerly to James. As they kissed, Connor moved passed them, not paying attention to the couple making out in the shadows. When James pulled away he breathed out a wistful "Wow" and then dragged Lily out of the bar.

It wasn't uncommon for James and I to leave the party at different times so I wasn't surprised when James was suddenly missing. When I heard that he had left with a girl, I decided to wait to go home, nothing was more disturbing then walking into the house and hearing your brother going at it with some random girl. Trust me, I had done it enough times in my lifetime and I didn't want to do it again. Yet there was something gnawing at the pit of my stomach, I should have listened to it. I should have gone home right then and there.

Lily and James took a cab back to the house. Our parents were away again, some fancy wine tasting trip on the Niagara. James took the still crying Lily out to the pool to sit out under the stars. He brewed her a cup of tea and then handed it to her. Lily smiled to him. "I'm so stupid you know?" she said. "I should have listened to you. God, I'm pathetic."

James sat down beside her, he put an arm around her shoulder and kissed her temple. Since their kiss he had gotten all sorts of sentimental. It was kind of scaring him and yet he kind of liked it at the same time. "You're not pathetic. You're stupid, but not pathetic."

Lily glared at him. "You're horrible at comforting people." and then the two of them laughed. James felt himself moving in for another kiss, he saw Lily lean into it and then he was plagued with a conscience for the first time in a long time.

James had always been about getting with the girl and then dropping the girl as soon as he was done getting into her pants. He had done some pretty unscrupulous things to do that, but even he had some qualms about breaking a promise to his younger brother. Lily pulled away when he didn't kiss her and he saw those blue eyes sparkling like twinkling stars in the night sky and he lost his resolve. He couldn't stop himself from kissing her, and he couldn't stop after that. He kissed her again and again, each time he told himself that this would be the last time, but he was just lying to himself.

This was when I got home. I had figured giving my brother an hour was more than enough time to have done the girl and kicked her out of the house. What I didn't expect was to find him making out with my Lily by the pool.

I watched as he pulled himself away from Lily, he was breathless and he had butterflies, he hadn't felt this way for a girl since the ninth grade. "Look, I know you're all in love with Connor and what not, but I really like you. I want a shot Lily, I want you to be mine."

Lily smiled, encircling her arms around his neck, she placed a small kiss to his nose. "And what does being yours entail? Cause I could go for some cuddling right now." It was like an ice cold knife had been plunged into my heart. I was near tears for the first time since I was nine. Okay, that's a lie, it was the first time since last week. I should have walked away but I wanted to see what my brother would say. I prayed he'd remember his promise to me.

James rested his forehead against Lily's. "I want you to date me. Nothing official yet, and if you agree I'll cuddle you all the way to the moon and back."

That was all I neededto hear. There it was. My older brother, the man who looked me in the eye andpromised that he wouldn't steal the love of my young life from me had justasked her to date him. Of course she was going to say yes, he was closer to herage and a lot hotter than me. I left them to their twittering to go to my roomand sulk. It felt like it this was the end of the world to me and now it wasall going to be about breaking them up.
