They weren't scared by the fire, but they wanted their mother. They were merely preteens. They knew how to do the laundry, cook, and clean, but they needed a mother's love.

But they were not normal. They were an abomination. They had powers that no human should've had.

And so, they were not human, and if they weren't human, then they would die. The only supernatural forces humans knew back in 800 A.D. were witches.

And there was one truly effective way of killing a witch; fire.

Beatrice felt hot. Her skin was searing - it was burning. She wanted it to stop, but she needed to see who was in pain.

Why were the two siblings crying? Who was coming? How did they have so much power before they were turned into vampires?

"Oh - looks like we got here just in time," Aro said. "We can't have our two future guards burning at the stake. It'll be magnificent to have witch-vampires."

Then, he bit into the boy.

And Beatrice screamed loudly as she sat upright in bed. It was hot - searing hot. She felt the pain of being transformed once more. She hadn't felt that in two hundred years, and it still burned her. Her insides ached as she felt her blood stop and fangs elongate.

It was Edward who came to her rescue that time. He hugged her and comforted her, reassuring her that it wasn't real. He reached into her mind as he always did after a nightmare, and what he found frightened him.

Beatrice only dreamt of people she'd met before and people she would meet, and if she had never met Alec before, then she would soon, and Edward did not like that. The Volturi were dangerous and he didn't want any of his family members near them.
