The Olympic Coven and their witnesses gathered in a large, snow-covered field. Garrett stood next to Kate as they all watched and waited for the Volturi.
"If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman," Garrett muttered.
Kate scowled at him. "Now you tell me?"
The Volturi and their army were getting closer. Garrett was jittery. He couldn't stay still, choosing to hop in place.
"The Redcoats are coming! The Redcoats are coming!" Garrett exclaimed.
It was clear that the Volturi outnumbered the opposing side. Edward watched Aro as they walked towards them.
"Aro's looking for Alice," Edward whispered.
As Aro and his army walked closer, the wolf packs prowled out from the forest, growling at the Volturi. Jacob, as a wolf, stood next Bella, Renesmee, and Edward. The Volturi stood in a line, facing the Olympic Coven and their witnesses. Beatrice gripped Alec's hand. He would have kissed her forehead or reassured her more, but he was nervous. For the first time since he turned, he was actually nervous to face Aro.
Carlisle walked forward. "Aro, let us discuss things as we used to - in a civilized manner."
Aro stuck his nose into the air. "Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us."
"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken."
Caius scoffed. "We see the child. Do not treat us as fools."
"She is not an immortal!" Carlisle shouted. "These witnesses can attest to that. Or you can look. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks."
"Artifice!" Caius accused.
Aro held his hand up. "I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story. Edward - as the child clings to your newborn mate - I assume you are involved."
Edward looked at Bella, then walked towards Aro. Bella used her powers to shield Edward as he walked farther away from her. As he stood in front of Aro, he extended his hand. Aro took it and used to see through his memories.
Aro let go of Edward's hand. "I'd like to meet her."
Edward turned around to look at Bella and Renesmee. Bella, Renesmee, Jacob, and Emmett walked towards Aro. They stood in front of the man who held their lives in his hands.
