Chapter 12
Dolphin POV: Alvin
"So you're telling me you want to stalk the principal all day to find out all his secrets?" I asked. "How is that any good?"
"Not to find out just any secret," Piano said. "But to find even more proof that Wayne was only chosen to be captain because of his parents' generous contributions to the school. Every day, Wayne is started to get worse and even torments people outside of his house. He needs to be replaced by someone who is far superior."
"Everyone is more superior than Wayne," I said. "I would know. I'm also a captain so all those captain meetings really helped me understand exactly what kind of person Wayne is."
Pearl and Ester suddenly sat down across from me and Piano. "We heard you talking about what a horrible captain Wayne is," Pearl said. "And as another captain, I can confirm he's horrible."
"There should be a rule that if all captains think another one is horrible, they shouldn't be captain," Ester said. "That way we would only need the Coyote's agreement."
"And as the Coyote's captain's boyfriend, I can confirm that all the captains think Wayne is horribly," Piano said before leaning forward towards them as if he didn't want anyone else in the cafeteria to hear what he was about to say. "Can you two keep a secret?"
"Oh, definitely," Pearl said.
"And if it's something you want to keep a secret, it must be good," Ester said. "I don't know how you do it but you're amazing at finding out things nobody else knows. I mean, you knew I was a lesbian before I even knew."
"Uh, because you were always staring so lovingly and wistfully at Pearl," Piano said. "I see all. Nothing gets passed me."
I didn't even doubt that. I still had no idea how Piano knew I had fruit parfait for breakfast the last time we went investigating together.
"So what's this big secret?" Pearl asked.
"I'm only telling you two because for one, Pearl is the captain of the Owl house," Piano said. "And two, you two really do seem like good secret keepers. You always try your best to stay out of drama and you're always willing to help people out. You're probably the two sweetest girls in the school."
"Awe, thanks, Piano!" Pearl said. "So... The secret?"
"Wayne wasn't originally intended to be the Tiger's captain," Piano said. "Someone else was until Wayne's parents made some generous contributions to the school?"
"Wait, are you serious?" Pearl asked. "That's totally unfair. He's a horrible captain and I'm sure the other person the school had intended would be a much better fit."
"You got that right," I said. "And Piano is certain something suspicious is going on at this school. I have some doubts, but I'm siding with Piano on it. There does seem like something weird could be going on. Like what kind of school accepts bribes from a student's parents?"
"So we've been investigating around the school," Piano said. "We got the proof of the contribution. We're just trying to see if there's anything else we can find that will help the intended captain become the captain."
"I've been trying to..." I lowered my voice just in case anyone was listening in. "Hack the principal's computer. But he's a genius. It's hard getting by his firewall. And I once hacked into a government database."
"Okay, that makes things sound even more suspicious," Ester said. "I mean, yeah, I get someone having a firewall on their computer but to have one that's even more secured than the government? You can't convince me that the principal isn't hiding something. It may be something small but it's still something."
