Season's greetings! Here at Wattfest, we're ready to write and be merry. How about you? Do you need a little inspiration? Perhaps you already have some...
For this holiday-themed challenge, we want you to choose someone from Wattpad who has had an impact on your Wattpad experience. Write a letter, a poem, or a short holiday-themed story (Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or some other winter festival) for this person or about this person (example - a real or fictional story with this person as the main character).
Prose entries must be between 250 and 1000 words.
Poetry can range from 100-1000 words.
And here's the thing. Your identity has to be a secret!
If you agree to this and your entry adheres to the rules, word limits, and content guidelines, and as long as you deliver a positive message, we will ask you to send us your story and not publish it on your profile YET. We will be Santa's Little Helpers here and dedicate the story-gift to the person you wrote it for. We will add your story, WITHOUT mentioning you first, into our Secret Santa collection. On or after December 24th, you will be able to post this story on your own profile.
Entries will be accepted through December 21st, 2018. We'll start publishing on December 10th and the Secret Santa reveal party will be on December 23rd. High quality entries that are standalone stories (not part of a collection) and appear on your profile will also be considered for our Secret Santa reading list. There are very specific guidelines, though, so please read them in full if you intend to participate.
Guidelines:
- Start Date: December 3rd, 2018
- End Date: December 21st, 2018
- DO NOT publish your story on your own profile until AFTER the Secret Santa reveal party on December 23rd (when your identity goes public on the Wattfest profile). We want these "gifts" to be a surprise for the recipients.
- If you would prefer your identity to remain a SECRET, let us know when you submit your story (click the box on the form). In this case, we will only publish your story in our Secret Santa collection and we will not reveal your identity after Christmas.
- No Mature content please. See Wattpad Content Guidelines for more information. And please keep the message positive.
- Pick a winter holiday. Giving thanks is the main theme for this contest. It doesn't have to be Christmas. It can be any occasion during the winter season.
- Word count: Stories and Letters have to be between 250 and 1000 words. Poems can be between 100 and 1000 words.
- You are allowed to enter more than once. However, we cannot guarantee that we will publish more than one entry or consider more than one for our reading list. We want to make sure everyone gets a turn.
- Everyone who adheres to all guidelines will appear in the collection at least once. It's the thought that counts.
- We encourage the use of festive media. Why not use image, sound, and/or video to help carry your story, letter, or poem? If you don't submit any, we reserve the right to decorate your entry when posting it in our collection!
- High quality entries that you've posted as a standalone story on your profile (on or after the 24th of December, of course) may appear on our Secret Santa reading list. Pay attention to grammar/spelling, and deliver a smooth, unique, meaningful message if you'd like your entry to be considered.
- If you've followed all guidelines and you're ready to submit your entry and any media you've found, please be sure to paste the text (no links please, it would violate the most important rule. It's a secret!), and include your username (and whether or not you'd like it revealed to the public) and the recipient's username into this {Form/Closed}.
Happy holidays, partygoers! Thanks for making Wattpad merry and bright with us this season. We look forward to reading your entries!
