CHAPTER 4

Jaylen's pov

He grabbed my hand and started tugging me along with him towards the parking lot; it was then that I heard someone's faint voice call out, "Jay?"

My head whipped around, almost like it was a force of habit; I turned to see who had called even though I already knew the answer, Jarren. His face said it all; he looked like he was at a loss for words, he just stood there with his mouth wide open and a blank expression. I turned my gaze from Jarren to Dyllan who I could tell wasn't fazed. I bit my lower lip as I switched my gaze back and forth between the two boys. Finally, Dyllan broke the silence, "Look, are we gonna go or what?"

I was about to reply yes when I felt Jarren grip my other hand, "Um, Jay, school's that way." He stated then pointed in the direction of the buildings.

"She's going to hang out with me." Dyllan growled while tugging me closer to him.

Jarren rolled his eyes, "Come on, you're going to school." He spoke then tugged towards him.

He didn't get very far before Dyllan was up behind me with his arm around my waist, snatching me away from Jarren, "I don't think so."

Jarren turned and glared at Dyllan before rolling his eyes and starting to walk in the opposite direction, "Fine, do whatever you want. Why should I care?"

I sighed before pulling Dyllan's arm off of me, "He's right, I can't keep missing school..." I trailed off for a minute, trying to put my thoughts in words, "It's not what my parents would've wanted." I flinched at the hoarse thing that was my voice; after all this time I still couldn't talk about my parents casually, it was just too painful.

I didn't even look back or wait for him to respond, I just walked in the direction of the school and tried not to think of what I would rather be doing, ditching with Dyllan. It wasn't until I was past the point of turning back that I heard the screeching of tires, that I assumed were Dyllan's.

I shoved my hands in my short pockets and scooted my feet along as I tried to delay going to class. I was deep in thought and it took me a moment before I realized that someone was following me. I turned around to see, of course, Kevin, my only ex boyfriend.

I stopped cold in my tracks and turned to glare at him, shooting daggers at him with my eyes. He stopped playing with his stupid long hair for an actual two seconds to look up at me with that stupid smirk that he always wore across his face. No matter how much of a douche bag I thought he was, my heart couldn't help but skip a beat; when I saw him, it always did.

I yanked my hands out of my pockets and crossed my arms over my chest as he stood in front of me. He had on a sublime shirt, skinny jeans, a pair of big black vans and a black I <3 Boobies bracelet. He towered over me and was definitely the skinniest guy I had ever known; his green eyes seemed like they blazed into mine and he had that look of innocence on his face that he always had whenever he saw me. "Skipping school?"

It took me a minute to process what he said, I shook my head, "Ah, no. I was just getting to class actually. If you'll excuse me..." I trailed off as I tried to maneuver my way around him.

He grabbed me around the waist and pulled me closer to him which made my heart race. We just stood there, me pressed against him and his arms wrapped around my waist for what seemed like forever; I was debating to pull away or not because honestly I liked it. Finally he spoke up, "Look I know I was a douche to you in the past..." He started explaining himself to me for what felt like the thousandth time.

He could never deal with the fact that he got caught; we had only been going out for three weeks and he was riding the bus with Esme and she overheard him talking about how he was just going to get what he wanted out of me and then dump me, so I screwed him over twice as bad; not only did I embarrass him in front of the whole school but I dumped him before he could dump me.
