"You know what I've been thinking about more recently?" Tyler asks Josh. "Death."
"oh," Josh said a little taken aback and suddenly worried. "what about death have you been thinking about?" Tyler and Josh were in Tyler's basement in his home in Ohio, sitting on Tyler's couch.
"Just... like it's so funny that we all know it's gonna happen, and yet we never talk about. And it could happen at any moment. It's so weird" Tyler was glaring into Josh's eyes, studying him.
"yeah, man. Totally. It is quite weird." Tyler and Josh are used to having deep discussions. Tyler and Josh will occasionally talk to their girls, being Debby and Jenna, about this type of stuff but really they both only feel entirely comfortable talking to each other about it. They got up off the couch as Tyler ran out of redbull and wants seconds.
"You know what I've been thinking about more recently?" asks Josh. "how out of all of the lives I could have lived I have this one. This crazy one where I'm touring the world in a band with my best friend." "Aw," Tyler said as he got a redbull out of the fridge. "yeah man, I think about that too. And it's like we could have not been alive at all. There could have been nothing. And the thing about 'nothing' is that we would never even know that 'something' is possible."
"Yeah, that's so weird to think about," says Josh. "Messes me up a little," they lightly chuckled as Josh drank his Lemonade and Tyler drank his redbull.
"and this life could have even been so much crazier. I mean we could have been been touring with Lincoln and living on the sun."
"That would be hot," Josh said. They laughed, Tyler finding it funnier than even necessary, laughing for like thirty seconds. Josh loved this about Tyler though (we all do).
Later that night, Tyler lay awake eyes wide open. Tyler thought that Jenna was sleeping next to him, laying on her side, but she had known that Tyler was awake longer than usual. She suddenly said "what are you thinking about, honey?" Tyler was slightly taken aback. "Oh, it's nothing," Tyler said. "come on, with that mind, it's never nothing," Jenna kissed him on the cheek which turned into a twenty-second make out session. "I'm just thinking about death," Tyler suddenly said, painfully aware of how awkward and ironic it was for him to say that directly after they had been intimately kissing. "Oh," Jenna said a similar reaction to Josh but more disappointed in which turn the situation took. "Why are you thinking about death, Ty? Am I that bad of a kisser?" they laughed. "No, no, you know I love your kissing," Tyler began. "It's just- I don't know, never mind. Good night, honey. I love you." "I love you too," Jenna said sadly, studying Tyler, worried about him.
"Jim! come here boy!" were the words Tyler woke up to. Josh had forgotten his sweatshirt was at Tyler's house and came back to pick it up. Tyler got himself dressed and came downstairs to greet Josh. "Dude, there's a sick house that's decorated for Halloween like a block away, and they have a poster on the side of the house with us in skeleton costumes, no joke."
"No way!" Tyler said, never having seen something like this.
"For real, let me drive you down and show you."
"Yeah, man." Tyler said
"Tyler, I made you breakfast," Jenna said with blueberry pancakes two minutes until ready in the kitchen
"Okay, this should take like one minute," Tyler said.
"We'll be quick," Josh said, putting on his shoes.
