“Your first obstacle of the course is the 2’6 log jump followed by being able to safely cross the bridge. Then you must open the gate whilst mounted before moving on to side passing. Afterward you shall demonstrate backing up then you will cross the water over there.
Then to the tarp challenge followed by a barrage of loud noises. Afterward you shall demonstrate a perfect sitting trot then you will be confronted by a large crowd. After that you will deliver a beautiful canter transition and canter a circle once. Second last is pole weaving ending with the teeter totter.” Sebastian concluded briefly; I mentally tried to remember every last detail.
“Chance Spring it’s your turn.” Sebastian then called to Chance who had been warming up Lost in Translation in one of the rings.
The gelding and the boy quickly trotted off to begin their course.
“I suggest you all begin to warm up.” Sebastian said coolly.
Instantly each of us were either getting leg ups or using the mounting blocks; before long all three of us were getting warmed up in the smaller sand ring.
Winter was a little perkier outside than indoors which was totally understandable and I began to understand what kind of energy was just good ole fashion passion and which kind of energy would result in freak outs; thankful today Winter was simply spunky and willing, she reacted almost too much to my aids.
Despite Winter’s attentiveness I was beginning to stress about the challenge itself.
Water crossing? Loud noises? Tarps? Teeter Totter?!
I wasn’t sure how Winter would react to any of those things! I tried to swallow my insecurity and anxiety; Tatum looked pleased with the course and same with Zo so it shouldn’t be so bad, right?
It didn’t take as long as I would have expected for Chance to return and the expression on his face read unsure and not pleased. I gulped.
I watched Harper exit the ring at Sebastian’s order and go brave the test.
I slowed Winter down to walk beside Storm and Amelia.
“You OK A?” I asked gently; her mood from earlier was worrying me.
“Yeah.” She sighed; “I just didn’t want to bother you guys with my anxiety anymore.”
“Why would you say that Amelia?” I asked; “We’re your friends, you can count on us.”
Amelia gave a weak smile; “Yeah?”
“Hell yeah.” I repeated. “I know you’re gonna kick my butt today.”
“As if.” Amelia smiled.
“If I tell you something you gotta promise you won’t tell anyone else until I’m ready to say something.”
“You sucked face with Ben didn’t you?” Amelia gasped teasingly; I was glad the old Amelia was back but that exclamation only reminded me of Ben and an immense feeling of guilt overcame me.
“Uh no.” I shook my head. “I found a letter on my door and it gave me weird hints about this week’s challenge; before it happened.”
Amelia’s face contorted into confusion; “For real?”
“Yeah and I don’t know who wrote it.”
“Strange; you have to tell Tate and Zo.” Amelia said; “Remember you can count on us.” She winked.
“Blair Thyme.” Sebastian’s voice carried my name to my ears swiftly and my heart sank.
“Good luck B.” Amelia said.
