dan sighed softly as he sat outside the school, his knees pulled up to his chest as he listened to everyone around him laugh and talk, as he simply sat alone, staring out at the street.

he felt so numb. he wanted to just sit there forever and cry, but he was already getting a lot of stares, and he wasn't even crying.

he sat there for a good twenty minutes before he realized everyone was gone.

or so he thought,

philip lester put out his cigarette, crushing it with the sole of his shoe. he knew he shouldn't be smoking on school property, but he honestly didn't care one bit right now. he'd just gotten in a fight with two other kids from their school and everything hurt. blood ran down his knuckles as he walked out to see the thin boy who always stopped by his work to get chewing gum.

he hesitantly approached the boy in pastel clothes with a faint smile. "hey.. everything alright?" he asked the porcelain boy, to which dan replied with a simple nod. "fine." dan mumbled and cleared his throat, wiping his eyes as he rose to his feet. "just peachy, peachy-fucking-keen." he muttered, his voice laced with sarcasm.

phil bit down on his bottom lip, he knew the brunette was lying, but he didn't want to interfere. "well.. mind if i walk you home?" he asked as his gaze met dan's.

"uhm.. i don't see why not.." dan replied hesitantly, messing with his long lilac sleeves that went past his thin, dainty fingertips.

"perfect." phil said with a grin as he ran a hand through his midnight black quiff as the two started walking.  "never caught your name, by the way." phil said after a few minutes to finally break the silence.

"dan.." dan replied quietly, his eyes saying focused down at the ground as they walked to his home. "we have history together." he added. the raven haired boy hadn't forgotten him, had he? "i also stop by your work a lot," he said and looked back up, not to phil, but just forward.

"ya, i know." phil replied and shoved his hands in his pockets. "my name's phil." he said with a sigh as silence grew thick in the air again. "remember that one day.. er.. last thursday? when you wore a skirt? you looked good in it. lipgloss was cute too," he didn't mean for that to slip out of his mouth, but it did.. and he meant it too. he couldn't stop thinking about dan in that little skirt, his lips glossed with cherry red. he couldn't forget, he didn't want to forget.

dan blushed as he heard him say that, he couldn't believe phil remembered that. "t-thanks-" was all dan managed to stutter out before biting down on the velvety pink skin of his bottom lip for a moment. "you uh.. you really think so?" he squeaked and looked over at phil.

phil chuckled softly and nodded. "i really do. i wouldn't have said anything if i didn't think so." he said with a shrug and smiled down at the significantly shorter boy.

dan couldn't help but smile because of his reply, and he looked forward again.

they soon arrived to dan's house and he could tell that he wasn't the only one not wanting the walk to end.

phil sighed softly. "i'll uh.. see you around?" phil said, but it ended up sounding more like a question. dan nodded and smiled. "yeah.. do you work tonight?" he asked quietly.

"I do.. you should stop by so i'm not alone the whole time," he said with a chuckle.  "I will." Dan replied, a smile resting on his face.

"great. see you then." phil said and smiled before backing off of dan's front steps.

"see you then." dan replied, his smile growing even bigger. it'd been a while since he'd genuinely smiled, so it felt almost foreign to him.

after the boy dissapeared into the horizon, dan rushed inside. he knew phil wouldn't be at work for three more hours, but he already started to get ready, and the first thing he did was grab the little pink skirt.
