i'm awoken to the sound of my dad making breakfast downstairs and luka taking a shower.

i turn over to look at the time.

"shit." i mumble to myself. i'm gonna be late to school.

i turn my phone on and see a text from ethan.

dolan :
hey thanks for giving me a ride last night. you didn't have to do that.

wow i didn't know this kid was capable of actually being humble.

me :
it was no biggie. no need to thank me.

dolan :
have a good day at school today, malia.

me :
you too, dolan.

i put my phone down and remember luka's breakdown from yesterday.

i walk up to his room and knock on his door, asking if i can come in.

"come in!" i hear luka yell.

"hey luka" i gently walk into his room.

i didn't want to remind him of yesterday, so i casually ask him, "how's everything?"

"malia, it's okay."

"what do you mean?"

"i know you're worried about me because of yesterday but i'm fine. no need to worry," he casually says as he brushes his hair.

he may have been eight, but he always knew how to read me like a book.

"i'm glad to hear that, luka."

"go get ready!" he pushes me out of the door.

i laugh to myself and start to get ready for my day at school.

as i'm getting ready, my phone goes off.

wanna have some fun on saturday?

me :
oh geez. what do you mean?

sofia :
caleb's throwing a party on saturday. i got my mom to watch mason for me.

me :
i'll think about it. i might have homework.

sofia :
malia come on! screw doing your homework. live a little!

me :
fuck it. okay i'll go.

sofia :
