Tanners POV
As soon as the word rolled off my tongue she blushed. She bit her lip and looked down at her feet as she tucked her now straight hair behind her ear. Wow was right.
"You look great!" I said. I didn't mean to add so much surprise in that, she looked a little hurt.
"Thank you." She breathed. I grabbed her hand and lead her into the diner.
"Hey Tanner- who is this little girly?" Jenny asked me as she snapped her gum.
"Jenny this is Jesse. Jesse my sister Jenny." They exchanged hellos and then I dragged her to a booth before she could consume her in a conversation she couldn't get out of.
"She talks quite a bit, be aware." I chuckled. She giggled a little and showed a row of perfect teeth.
"So where are you from?" I ask, scratch in the back of my neck. Jenny gives us two coffees.
"Originally? New York and Nev Maryland. But we were in North Carolina so we had to drive 10 hours to get to New York. Real pain in the ass." She wrapped her little hands around the mug and held it over the saucer. She looked up at me and when our eyes met it was like sparks were flying. I smiled like an idiot and took a sip of my coffee.
The night carried on asking questions like those. Just getting to know each other. I noticed little things about her as the morning went on. Her perfect smile and dainty hands. She always crosses her legs. She bites her lip and runs her fingers through her hair when she's thinking. Little things that I craved.
After coffee came desert and then a walk to Trafalgar Square. She ran around like a little kid saying she missed the place. We fed pigeons at 4 in the morning. She pulled out a Polaroid camera and made me get on top of one of the four lions that sit around the middle. She snapped the picture and put it in her bag.
"Let me see!" I tried to get it from her but she ran away. She made her way up one of the lions and I followed her. I climbed up the back and wrapped my arms around her waist. She took another picture. We laughed, both completely breathless and we leaned against each other. She yawn and looked up at me with her big green eyes.
"Is it time to go home?" She pouted but I knew it was.
"C'mon!" I carried her down the statue and I carried her on my back until I hailed a cab. She fell asleep in my lap. I had no clue where she lives and I wasn't about to wake her so I gave the driver my address. I thanked him and carried her into my tiny apartment. I brought her upstairs and gently took off her jacket. I tucked her in and kissed forehead, breathing in her sweet scent.
"Goodnight my love." I whispered into her hair.
I trudged downstairs and set up the couch. I laid down on my back and stared at the ceiling. I prayed.
"Thank you for sending me a girl who takes away the sting."
I want to tell her before we get too close, but I don't want to lose her just yet.
