Los Angeles, California
Ella shook as she stood outside Jonah's apartment door. Her stomach filled with more nerves than she'd care to admit. If there was one thing Ella felt she was good at; it was messing things up. Maybe it was the way she acted or the jokes she made, but she always did something to make others leave. Expect Lila.
"He's gonna love you- if he doesn't already," Lila told her before Ella left their apartment. The words repeated over and over again, as if at some point it was going to make her feel better; which it didn't.
Before she could get the strength to bring her hand up to the blue apartment door, it opened, startling her as Ella's eyes went wide and her heart rate began to pick up.
"Hi" Jonah smiled, his eyes never leaving hers. It was different this time. She wasn't caught off guard or working. There wasn't an angry man yelling at them to hurry up. In some ways, it made her more nervous this way.
"Hello" Ella smiled, Jonah couldn't help but get lost in her eyes, they were unlike anything he had ever seen before.
"Come on in"He said, finally, moving out of the door frame to let her in. Ella didn't reply but held a smile as she walked in, the boy couldn't help but note how short she was when she walked past him, she only was only to his chin; he thought that was cute.
"This is exactly how I imagined your apartment would be"She said with a laugh as she looked around. Everything was clean and organized, two bookshelves between the tv; both full of books. She smiled as she looked at some of the titles; Harry Potter, The Program, The Dark Tower, Percy Jackson.
"Ah, you've got a cute collection," Ella told him, a smirk placing her lips as she looked at him.
"Cute?"He asked, a raised eyebrow as he walked over to her, both of them standing only inches apart as they looked at each other face to face.
"Yeah, it's a good starter," She said, egging him on. They've had conversations about books before, ones they loved, ones they couldn't get past the first chapter, ones that got turned into horrible moves.
Jonah rolled his eyes at her playfully, making her smile as she moved next to him, their shoulders touching while they kept giving eachother side glances.
"So, I was thinking"
"Please say, Harry Potter movie marathon"Ella cut him off, turning her body so their eyes looked once more.
"It's like you read my mine" Jonah said with a laugh; smiling wider than ever as the happiness lit up in Ella's eyes. One of the many things they had in common; Harry Potter.
"Okay, but first we need good snacks. Care to join me for a car ride to Walmart Mr.Marais?"Ella asked, a fake posh accent as she shoved her pale arm out; wiggling her fingers at him.
"Mrs.Parks I would enjoy nothing more than that" He said, his voice as fake as hers as he placed his hand inside hers; both of their stomachs flipping as he laced their fingers together.
An hour and a half later, three bags of snacks, a Starbucks stop and singing sounds that played loudly on the radio; they had returned to Jonah's apartment. Any awkwardness between the two of them had completely disappeared.
"An hour and a half well spent," Ella said with an approving nod as she collapsed on his couch, Jonah following suit right beside her. Picking up a chocolate bar and unwrapping it from the purple foil, she took a bite- not waiting for Jonah to even put the movie on.
"What?"Ella asked, her words mumbled by the chocolate in her mouth, her face clueless as she felt Jonah look at her.
"Nothing" He said, smiling while he grabbed the remote from the table before beginning the first out of five movies they got done before falling asleep on his couch.
