Chapter Three
I woke up to find Katherine sat on the large lounge chair by the near wall to me. She was evidently playing with her hair and fiddling about with her perfectly manicured nails, obviously waiting for me to wake up.
“I know we’re sisters and all, but are we really supposed to be this close?” I asked pulling her out of her blatant boredom.
“What do you mean?” she resumed back to playing with her appearance.
“I mean, you don’t have to stay in here until I wake up at… What time is it?” I replied.
“Eight in the morning,” she answered me.
“Why am I even up this early,” I muttered to myself.
I combed my fingers throughout my still curly, but messy bed hair and looked down to my hand to discover that my hands were different as well, they’d changed so much.
My nails were no longer short and scruffy, but they were now longer, manicured and delicate with what looked like a soft touch of clear polish to finish them off.
“Don’t mutter, it’s impolite,” I heard Katherine from beside me, she had now moved swiftly from the lounge chair, closer to the end of my bed.
“Says the one,” I remarked back. She shot me a glare but I just completely ignored it and carried on trying to actually wake up properly.
“There’s actually hope for you yet Lily,”
“Was that an actual compliment?”
“Don’t get used to it,” she snapped instantly.
But not in the usual mean tone she always used, and in more of a softer snap. I rolled my eyes at her and swung my legs out of bed to stretch up and groan. Just then Emily Bennett entered into the room and closed the door gently behind her.
“Good morning Miss Lilly,” Emily greeted me.
“Morning Emily, and please just call me Lilly,” I greeted her back.
“Okay then Lily, but I’ve been sent to tell you both that breakfast will be served in half an hour,” she told both me and Katherine.
“Thank- you Emily, do you know if we have anything planned for today?” Katherine butted in, before I could ask.
“No, completely free day,” Emily said politely back before she turned to leave.
“Wait! Emily...” I stopped her in her tracks.
“Yes Lily,” she whipped back her head towards me.
“Can you by any chance help me with my corset this morning? I don’t trust certain people with it,” I mentioned to her.
“No need to be cryptic,” Katherine said from beside me.
“No need to be here,” I remarked.
“Yes I do, but I’ll get to that once you’re actually decent,” she gestured to my current attire.
“Oh the joys of being your ‘sister’” I put up air quotes on the word sister and said with my tone of sarcasm.
“Yes Lily, I’ll help you,” Emily replied to my earlier question.
Twenty minutes and a plus my corset on later, I picked up my dress by the shoulders and observed it. Twirling it round to get a better look. It was light blue, darker on the outside and lighter underneath and it was, like all the other dresses I had been given, beautiful.
