I slowly open my eyes to the bright sun blinding me. My eyes adjust and I look around realizing I'm not in the water. My eyes widen as I see the ocean like 15 feet away. I'm on this sandy land. I feel air blow over me making me shiver. I feel myself slowly start to dry out. My gills scream for water. I'm sore all over. I look at my tail seeing it's cut from the net that still strangling it. I groan in pain. I try to move myself but I'm too heavy to move. I frown and look up at the blue sky. I smile thinking of the ocean. I then hear distant talking. I look around and seeing a figure on too legs a long distance away. I think...it's a human. I look at it curiously but then realizing, I frown. I need to get back to the ocean. What if the human captures me or worst...kills me. I wiggle around but it doesn't work. The human stops and says something. I think it was.
"I'll call you back..."
The human puts its hand down from its face and puts something in it's clothes. The human slowly starts walking to me. I panic and try to think of what to do but there's nothing that I can do. The human is only feet away and it looks at me in wonder. I see his tan skin and his red hair. I look into the humans eyes. His eyes are a warm brown color. I get lost in them.
"What are you..."
The human takes another step towards me and I snap out of lala land. I start freaking out again trying to get away. "Hey...hey...it's ok, I won't hurt you."
The human says. His voice is so smooth like velvet. I look at him in fear and curiosity. He looks at my tail and frowns. "You're hurt..."
He goes to my tail. He squats down and pulls out something shiny. As much as I want to move around and freak out...my body just won't. He starts cutting of the net that wrapped around my tail. I winced here and there. "Sorry."
He says. He finally gets all the rope off of me. He gets up and looks at the ocean and then back at me.
"Do you need to go back to the ocean?"
I slowly nod. He goes to my side and puts his arms around me lifting me up. For some reason...I feel safe in his arms. As much as I want to lick him away, I really don't. He walks into the ocean in at least 3 feet of water. He starts to shiver because of the cold water. He slowly puts me in.
"There you go."
He says as he smiles at me. I swim out of his arms and swim a couple feet away. I look back at him and slightly smile. He smiles at me. I dive into the ocean and disappear under the waves. The thought of a human saving me was crazy. I must be dreaming. All humans are cruel and will either capture you and put you in a science lad or kill you. But this human saved me. What I've been told about humans goes over and over into my mind. Maybe humans aren't as bad as we merpeople think. But my brother flashes into my mind making me frown. I try to let all of this go and swim home. As I slowly approach home I look at my tail. It has the outline of where the net dug into my tail. It was a little but other than that...I was fine. I sigh with thoughts flooding my mind. I head to the Kingdom where I find my mom and dad by the door talking with a palace guard. My mom is sobbing into her arms. I swim to them.
"Mom..."
She looks at me and her face lights up.
"Sean!"
She swims up to me sobbing. "There was a big storm last night and I thought you got lost or worst...are you ok?"
She looks at me. I debate whether to tell her what happened.
"I-im fine."
I try to smile. She hugs me. "Don't ever do that again."
I nod. She smiles.
"I was so worried sick."
"I'm sorry."
I frown looking down. She frowns, then smiles lifting my chin.
"It's okay Sean."
For the past few days I've been in my room...thinking about that day a human saved my life. I can't stop thinking about about him. Are humans nice and cruel...I had to see him again. I have to know whether I've been told the whole truth of humans. I get lost in my thoughts until I hear a knock at my door.
"Come in."
I say. The door slowly opens and my mother swims in.
"Sean...you've been in your room for the past couple days. Are you ok?"
She has a concerned tone in her voice. I nod.
"I'm fine just...thinking."
"Is something on your mind?"
I frown and look at my mom.
"Mom...what would you do if you saw a human?"
My mother frowns.
"Well I would certainly swim away. It's forbidden to be by humans nevertheless let one see you."
I frown.
"What if humans are nice?"
I ask.
"Sean, humans aren't...nice. They're cruel and dangerous and don't care about anything but themselves."
I think. Humans are said to be dangerous, but the human I met wasn't. From there, I knew what I had to do. I had to see a human again. I have to find out the truth.Hello!
