~Valerie~

The music blasting through my earbuds cause me to drift off in my mind. This song is unique, it's sad, but I can relate. It reminds me of actions that can cause me to become unbalanced, to break like a vase. Each time I'm dropped, I'm put back together. Each time this happens, I will never be the same as I was before. Life is cruel in many ways.

The song ends, drawing me back into the cold lonely world. I pop the earbuds out of my ears, bringing back in the room full of the clamorous noises of people talking.

In Eros High, we, the students aren't allowed to listen to our music to help focus on lessons. Being around these people alone makes me exhausted. I never really understood why being around people would cause me such tiresome tendencies.

"Hello, class" Mrs. Walker announces, placing her bag on the long white stained desk.

"We will be worki-" Mrs. Walker says but is interrupted by the entrance of Laurel Wreath and Phebe.

"Take your seats Ms. Vincent and Ms. Black" Mrs. Walker responds, gesturing to the two empty seats next to me.

Laurel Wreath and Phebe make their way towards me, a monstrous smile spread across my face. They do the same, their smiles lighting up my day like a lightbulb lights up the room or like the sun lighting up the day. We set our attention back to Mrs.Walker, who was suddenly giving us an indecipherable smile.

"Today, you will be working in groups for the mid-term project" Mrs. Walker continues, grabbing the stack of crisp white papers off her desk. She passes out the papers to the front to hand back to people behind.

"This will be fifteen percent of your grades," She says, all the papers handed out to the rows.

"You will be put into groups, when I call your name head over to the table with your group number on it" She explains, pulling out her computer.

I lean over to Phebe, "This is going to suck!" I whisper, knowing my bad luck.

"So long as I'm not paired with idiots I'll do fine," She whispers back, our focus coming back to Mrs.Walker who has started announcing groups.

There was a silence, "Valerie Summers, Duncan Davis, Apollo Hart, and Rose Wood," She announces, pointing to the table in the far right corner of the classroom.

I move my way about, weaving through the rows of desks, making it to the assigned table. I awkwardly sit down in one of the seats. The two boys were being pricks, and the other girl wasn't here today. Guess I'll have to do all the work for today.

Lifting the screen of my computer, I look for the assignment in the document that was sent for each group. The document has a prompt, why were the beliefs of the greek so focused on the aspect of love, war, and beauty?

"What's your name?" One of the two ask, I glance up to see his face. He has bright red hair and hazel eyes, with an un-complimenting tan skin to match somehow.

"Valerie," I say, giving a weak grin.

"I'm Apollo and this grumpy cat over here is Duncan," He says, gesturing towards the guy next to him. His hair was a darker blonde with a lighter tan. His eyes were looking down at his phone, snickering every couple of minutes.

"Apollo what the hell!" Duncan exclaims as Apollo pulls Duncan's phone away. His eyes were filled with anger, I noticed his eyes were unique. They looked blue, green, and grey at the same time.

"We are in a group project, Duncan," Apollo says, scolding Duncan for his behavior.

"Hi, I'm Duncan. And you are?" He questions, Apollo's head in his hands.
