Veronica's pov.

"Vic!" I hear Riley shout from the kitchen.

"I'm coming." I shout from my room.

"Yeah he said that too, now get your lazy ass here now. Before I drag you here by your hair." She threatened. I sigh and close my laptop before leaving my desk and heading down stairs.

"You called dear." I say walking into the kitchen.

"Happy birthday!" She shouts holding up a chocolate cake, when I say chocolate I mean chocolate. It's practical dripping with chocolate. She really knows how to make me smile.

"Riley, you know just how to make my day." I say walking over to give her a hug. "You baked this."

"You know it. I know how you hate store bought pastries, so I thought I might aswell put my teachings to work." Riley is a pastry chef in the making, she's a great at it. One of the best, I'm pretty sure Buddy himself would be in awe of her.

"You're the best." I kiss her on the cheek before getting a knife from the drawer. "Let us not waste time not eating this master piece." I say as I cut the cake.

"I am so glad I got you in a good mood." Riley says as she pulled a chair out from under the island. "Now you can't say no to me." I look at her and see she is smiling mischievously.

"Agh. We're going out, aren't we?" I ask knowing exactly what she has planned.

"You know me so well. Besides, it's your Twenty three." She says as she takes a bit of cake. "Mmmm." She moaned. "I did good on this cake."

"You always do." I take a seat next to Riley and eat my cake. Oh my word, talk about heaven in a slice. "Where will we be going?" I ask.

"Out, don't stress about the details just make sure that you look fuck-worthy."

"That is quite crude, I do not think I own any item of clothing that screams 'I'm a horny bitch, come get some'. Besides I really don't want to get fucked."

"Come on, Vic." Riley sighed heavily. "You need to get out of your shell and let loose."

"Riles, I'm all for your party lifestyle but it's just not my thing." I get up to put my plate in the sink. "That was the best cake I have ever had."

"Thanks. But Vic, you know I don't have as much fun as I do with you." Riley pleaded. "You can't say no to me this time. I promise I won't take you to a shitty place like last time."

Last time, yeah that really sucked duck. A few months ago, Riley convinced me to go put with her. Needless to say, it was a total disaster. I was hit on by almost every creep that looked my way, got into an argument with some thot because her boyfriend tried talk to me. Riley ditched me, I got into a fight with some jock that thought he was all that and a bag of chips. (I beat the crap out of him) Oh I forgot to mention, at the end of the night I was puked on. My favorite pair of sneakers were ruined.

"Yeah last time was pretty fucked."

"I promise it won't be like that. I swear on the river synx."

If you know not, synx is a readers thing. If you read the Percy Jackson series or any Greek mythological book or even watched a movie. You would know. I looked at her, her big gray eyes looked deep into my soul. I hate it when she does that. I sigh in defeat.

"Fine, I will go with you." She practically jumped for joy when she heard those words. "But." I say cutting her celebration short. "You must bake me a cake, at least once a week. For the next three months."

"Deal!" She shook my hand. "Now let's go get you all girly." Riley grabbed my wrist and dragged me back to my room.

We spent that next hour and a half looking for something for me to wear. Riley already said no pants or shorts. Which did not leave her with much, I have formal skirts for when I have to do a presentation, a dress that is way to short. Still have no idea how or why I have such an atrocious thing. And the rest are mostly sleep clothes. Every outfit she pulled out my wardrobe was either not to her liking or mine.

"Yep, that's it. You are wearing one of my dresses." I sigh and fall face first into my bed now cover with all my clothes. I speak to her but the words are muffled by my comforter.

"If you don't speak English, no one will ever understand what you are saying."

I lift my head and repeat myself. "I said, if I must wear a dress from your wardrobe. You must make me two something-sweet a week."

"Oh don't be so dramatic." Riley grabbed my ponytail and pulled me to her room.

"You know that is considered abuse." I say as I rub my head.

"Shut up and put this on." Riley ordered, as she handed me a black cocktail dress.

It was almost time to leave, I was in my room finishing up while Riley was in a panic looking for her new heels. I stood in front of the body length mirror and looked myself over. I could not believe that this was me. I looked completely different, but of course that was the point. Veronica Ives, that is who I was now. An alias. She had long, dark brown hair, even darker brown eyes. She stood taller then Lylith, was not as quite or shy. No, Veronica was strong. She didn't take any bullshit from anyone, a lesson she learnt from Lylith. I looked at my face, somehow I did not see Lily anywhere there. Even though the eyes were the same, the same soft yet noticeable freckles on the nose, the same lips.

I looked at what I was wearing, never in a million years would Lily be caught wearing such. The way it huged my bodice. I laughed a little. Even my silhouette was different, more muscle tone in my legs and arms. Nothing about me seemed the same anymore. Wasn't that the point? I was confused, did I do the right thing?

My thoughts were interrupted by Riley bursting into my room. "You ready? Our ride..." She stopped mid sentence and gave me a confused look. Riley sighed now understanding what was going though my head. "We don't have to go out tonight. If you are not comfortable with it, we can stay home and binge watch all your favorites."

Riley always know what I am thinking, she always understood. I couldn't have asked for a better person to call my best friend. "Nah, let's go get white girl wasted." I smiled at her.

"That's the sprit!" And with that, Riley practically dragged me out the house. This might be a good thing... Right?
