Pain sears through my hand and I feel warm blood drip over my hand. As I hear the splash of my blood on the cave floor the crack in the rocks expands and I squeeze my way through the gap into a large open cave. I look at my hand and see two large holes surrounded by pools of thick dark blood. I look back out to the room and see 10 or 12 teenagers and a man of about 23. My eyes are drawn to boy standing alone at the side of the group. He looks like he should be lonely but he grins at me like he's surronded by people.
I pull my eyes away from the boy as a thin slender man who looks like he might snap any second offers me a bowl of water and a bandage. I carefully dip my hand in the water, washing the blood from the wounds then I wrap my hand in the bandage. The man points me to a table a few feet away and I walk to it carefully eyeing up the people in the middle of the room. The older man is small and slight, essential for an assassin, and he shepherds the other Academy initiates into a group around him.
"Miss," the woman behind the table says, "name please."
"Cassia," I say simply, I have learned never to tell people my surname.
"Surname?" The woman asks impatiently.
"Umm" I falter biting my lip cautiously, "Allinbar." I say as quietly as I could.
"Speak up girl" the woman demands.
"Allinbar!" I half shout to the woman.
The whole room falls silent and turns towards me. What feels like hundreds of pairs of eyes bore into me. Staring. Unblinking.
I walk towards the middle of the large room, into the people, looking defiantly at every other initiates face. I see the boy again instead of looking at me with shock and awe like the others he grins at me laughing as i stare defiantly into his eyes.I stare into his deep blue eyes and I start to lose my self in the beauty of them. They glitter as he smirks at me.
"An Allinbar hey?" I rip my eyes away from the boy and up to my instructor as he smirks down at me. "Best hope you live up to your name, Allinbar."
"I will." I stare defiantly back at my new instructor but my eyes can't help flicking back to the boy as he still smirks at me.
