The darkness of the night outside
is mirrored in my heart.
For you are gone and I am here
from now on we're apart.
For fifty years we shared each day,
a smile, a kiss, a touch.
And now I sit alone and lost.
I miss your eyes so much
You always loved to greet the dawn,
called me a grumpy sod.
Your smile was the dawn for me,
I sit and wait for God
Yet as I watch the sun begin
to chase the dark away,
suddenly I see your face
in rays of a new day.
You're gone, I know, but dawn goes on
and brings with it so much.
The memory of a love still strong;
your smile,
your kiss,
your touch.
