The next morning, I felt like complete crap. Memories from last night quickly filled my mind as I blinked awake. The hangover was only half as bad as I had expected it to be; just a huge headache that accompanied those horrid memories.
I looked around for Megan and didn't see her in the living room yet. I pushed the thought of her sleeping in that buttwipe's arms out of my mind and got up to get a drink of water.
I got my water and was sipping on it in the kitchen when Megan appeared. She was holding Alex's hand, that's when I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. I looked at her face, her makeup was a little smudged and her lips were puffy from making out all night. "Can we go now?" I asked before she could even speak, I felt as if I was going to throw up then and there.
"Yeah, let me just find Emily real quick." I sighed disappointedly, but felt a little better when she walked away from Alex. She found Emily on one of the couches and I saw her make the motion for Megan to sit down on the couch next to her where she had slept the night before. Emily had a serious look on her face that made me want to know what was going on. I started to walk towards them when Alex spoke.
"You might as well give up now; you should've told her your feelings sooner." I really wanted to punch him in the face but I held myself back.
"What are you talking about?" I tried to ask nonchalantly.
"You know damn well what I'm talking about. You're in love with her and you know it. You've just been too much of a pansy to admit it to her yourself. That's why she didn't believe me last night when I mentioned it."
"You did WHAT?!"
"I mentioned it."
"Yeah, no shit. She didn't believe you because she's my best friend," I said angrily, while getting in his face. "and if you so much as blink wrong in her direction, I'll personally see to it that she never talks to you again. That's a promise."
"You're a bad liar, Nick. You should really get your anger problems checked out, too. It's not my fault you've missed your chance with her. You should have seen how amazing she was sooner, I'm sorry that I'm smart enough to realize it first. You only have yourself to blame."
"I've known how amazing she IS since the minute I met her. Yes, it is my fault that we're not together, I'll give you that much, but just because you got to kiss her a couple of times doesn't mean it's over for me." I started to walk away again but paused and smirked at him. "Oh, and just so you know I kissed her first."
I laughed inwardly at his expression and walked over to where Megan and Emily were, they still seemed to be having a serious conversation. I had gotten close enough to hear, "You need to realize who the right one is and-" then they heard me approach and stopped talking.
"We'll talk about this later." Emily said, glancing up at me.
Megan nodded somewhat glumly and looked up at me. "Okay, we can go now."
I followed her out the door and got in her car. After driving in silent agony for a few minutes, I decided I needed to tell her. Even if now wasn't the right time, I needed to get it all out. I couldn't stand watching her with Alex. I swear I could feel my heart breaking when I thought about how she slept in his arms last night. There is no way I could ever watch it happen again. I felt like an emotional little girl but I couldn't help it. It felt like my heart wanted to beat out of my chest as I tried to say her name with a stable voice. "Megan...." She glanced over at me and her eyes softened from what seemed to have previously been confusion.
"Yes?" She said so quietly I almost didn't hear her.
"There's something we need to talk about." I was trying my best not to scream "I LOVE YOU" in her face.
