I finally gain the courage to go to the surface again. It's been 2 weeks, too long, and I know it'll look weird, but I need my stuff. Yes I have my locket, but my phone is important. If someone sees that picture I took of Mark then they could be, no, we all could be in danger.
I just realized this now. I realize this and so I've scrambled to the surface. I'm so afraid what they could do, what they could say, and I don't want anyone to see me like this. I haven't been this afraid since I was in that house. I haven't been this afraid since so long ago, but it's back. The fear that takes over my body is back.
It's nearly 5 in the morning. At least that's what I guess, I have no way to tell time. I run, no, I sprint towards the school. About a block before I reach it I slow down and catch my breath so they don't think I'm hiding something.
I don't think the schools open, but I've never been here this early so who knows. I test the door handles, all of them, outcomes a janitor. He lets me inside to the principal's office. He immediately gets on his phone. He looks like he's in shock or disbelief. The principal walks in and he looks the same way the janitor does.
"How...? Did they..? Are you...?" He stutters, I've never seen him like this. I've never seen any teacher or principal like this.
"What?! I've just come to get my stuff. I left it on the ship, I thought you might have it here in the lost and found." I say calmly.
"You were throwing off a moving boat. A moving boat in the middle of a bay. No matter how....."
He gets cut off by the sounds of sirens getting closer to the school. Police officers first of the doors.
"Sean William McLaughlin you are under arrest. Anything you say can and will be used against you." An Officer says.
I'm pressed against the wall as they handcuffed me.
Why is this happening?
Why am I being arrested?
Why did I think it would be safe to come back?
