I stumble through the door and into the dark, cold room. It seemed musty, and reminded me of an old-time jail cell. It was made entirely of rocks, and as I bring myself to my feet I grab the wall, which is unsurprisingly slimy. I turn to face the three mooks that had brought me here, Roman's men.
A part of me is breaking inside, I'd give anything to be with my father tonight. I hadn't seen in him in nearly twenty four hours, he probably thought I'd disappeared again.
But a part of me said that was best. A part of me says to keep him at this distance, to hold him at arms length so it won't hurt as much when you do disappear.
"What're you boys gonna do?" I taunt Roman's men, smiling and wiping away my thoughts. I extend my arms out, laughing. "You gonna beat me with that bat?"
"I'm going to do a lot more than that," one of Black Mask's goons says.
"Are you? I'd like to see you try."
He steps forward, bringing the bat down towards me. I grab it, yanking it towards me and pulling him within striking distance. I slam my elbow into his arm, and hear a satisfying snap as it breaks in two. The man lets out a screech as I tear the bat from his hands, turning to the next henchman attacking from the left. I swing the bat at his head and connect with the side of his skull. He collapses to the ground, bleeding from the wound, and I assume he's dead.
I feel arms wrap around me as the third tries to subdue me. I flip the bat in my hand and slam the handle into his eye. As he attempts to recover, I backpedal, slamming him against the wall. I throw my head back and connect with his nose, and I hear it break as his head slams against the wall. He crumples to the floor, holding his head.
"Is that all you've got, Roman?" I mutter, grabbing the bat off the floor and heading to the door, casually opening it. I step into the cool night, my feet hitting grass. I quickly survey the area I'm in an it's... a graveyard?
"Get down!" a voice shouts, and I turn, seeing five armed gunman to my left, most likely Roman's men. I let out a sigh, dropping the bat and slowly sinking to my knees.
"Can't we solve this like real men?" I ask, dropping the bat and slowly lifting my hands to the back of my head. As they move in to detain me, I take my chance. As the furthest right gunman gets close enough, I launch into action, quickly grabbing his gun from his hands and turning him to use as a shield.
"That's better," I say, smiling. I open fire, sending the men flying out of the way. I hit at least two men, one of them most likely a fatal shot. I push the guard off of me, sending a bullet through the back of his head before diving behind a tombstone for cover. I reload the weapon before peaking over the top of the stone, only to find that more men had arrived.
"Put the weapon down, Ray," I hear a voice say, and I follow the sound, spotting Cole laying in the grass nearby, a sniper trained on me.
"You won't shoot me," I snap, aiming the gun at his head.
"Wanna bet? You said we could never be friends, guess you were right."
"You can't make the shot," I tell him.
Cole sets a bullet in the chamber and relaxes into a shooting position. In the time I'm speaking with him, a handful more goons had arrived. There was no way I could take them all down.
"Neither can you," he yells back.
I sigh, standing up from my position and walking out in to the open, dropping the gun beside me. How could Cole go from saving my life to pointing a sniper rifle at me in a couple of hours? Why was he suddenly against me again?
