In a world where there is
confusion of feelings,
black magic, harsh words,
suppressed tears and false love,
you fell for me hard,
and I could not love you back.

For war has toughened my skin, changed the rules of magic,
brought out the animal in me,
and painted my eyes with lifelessness; just to ensure
that I could never love again.

You say that it is my fault, but you have never once payed a duty in your life, nor have you stepped onto the battlefield; and only Lord knows
how many hearts have been broken
in that arena.

But it's my word against yours,
and that makes it anybody's game.
So come dance, darling,
do not mutter, but sing those spells that I have long forgotten
the words to.

And feel the heat
of the bullets whizzing by you,
as I once felt back
when I could still feel warmth,
but you've never understood that,
have you?

Perhaps it is my fault
for paying no mind
to the apathetic that I have become.
Yet, it is your downfall for forgetting what loving a soldier is like.

And forgetting,
who they once were,
where they come from,
what they stand for,
what they're becoming
and what their reasons are
for being who they are.
