Obligatory to follow the Sunnah

I came across this verse that said that in Rasool ul-llah(s.a.w) we have the best example to lead life

Then, If we love Allah then we should follow Rasool ul-llah(pbuh)..

And a Hadith where Ayesha (r.a) was asked to describe the character of the Prophet(s.a.w) and she said "His character was the Quran"

Now it struck to me so deep that Is not the Quran our 'code of life'.?
The legislations laid by Allah (swt)
For us to follow and abide by.? And Muhammad (s.a.w) was a complete example of it

Then,dear brethren.. doesn't it imply upon us as an obligation to follow the Sunnah.. to be something serious and not lighty, as we brush away every act of Sunnah saying it's a Sunnah and not a fard?
