hello angels! before this starts I just wanted to say since I wasn't really planning on making this a trilogy, I wrote the epilogue to be final, but it kinda conflicts with what I want this to be. so, I'm deleting/editing it, but for now before you read this, they aren't married.

also this will be a little less light than the past ones. it's gonna be a little more grown up if you catch my drift. I'm not really planning on writing full on smut (just to clear that up) bc I know a lot of you are young and I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that, BUT there's gonna be a few more comments/scenes (just skip if it makes you uncomfy). and just darker in general in terms of plot so I'm excited

anyway, I talk too much lets just get to the story right?

"Do you know why I called you in here, (Y/N)?"

She definitely knew why. It was because her senior resident was a jerk. Every time (Y/N) got into trouble it was because he blew something small out of proportion. However, (Y/N) couldn't say that and risk of getting into any more trouble. She settled with a simple, "No,"

"This is the third time this week, it's getting tiresome." Dr. Zhao sighed. She rubbed her temples and closed her eyes tight.

"I-I know," (Y/N) was very careful with what she was going to say. She could tell just by the program director's mannerisms that she was treading on thin ice. "I'm sorry, could you please tell me what I did wrong this time?"

"This time its because you didn't draw up the charts when you were asked. Just like last week."

She couldn't sit back and get attacked for something she couldn't help. "That's not me. Collins barely gives me any time to draw them up! And I'm so busy with other things I had a prior commitment to."

"Like sneaking into the OR? Or watching recordings of surgeries when you should be doing your work?"

(Y/N) shrunk back in her seat. "Well, I wasn't sneaking, really, I just--"

"(Y/N), you're a bright young woman. You'd have such a future if you just applied yourself."

"I-I do! I--"

"No, you don't. You slack off constantly, it takes you too long to complete simple tasks. If you want to be a surgeon, (Y/N), you have to put the work in. It isn't over just because you left med school."

"I just get distracted." (Y/N) tried to reason. "I want to learn! And cleaning bedpans isn't--" She stopped herself before she could continue, meeting Dr. Zhao's disapproving stare.

Feeling small, (Y/N) looked at the ground. She sacrificed so much just to be there. (Y/N) moved all the way to New York just because she was matched with a hospital there. She hardly got to talk to her friends. (Y/N) couldn't even remember the last time she saw Monty. And all she ever heard of Bill were brief phone calls on her breaks. The weekends off and shorter shifts she had weren't enough to support their rocky relationship, no matter how hard they tried. (Y/N) was ultimately risking all she had for a career.

"I know I can do better. This is everything to me--I have to do this so I can..." Her voice broke at the very thought of losing everything she worked for. "I'm doing this for my dad. I just want to save people. So no one else feels..."

There was a long and uncomfortable silence. Dr. Zhao sighed and clicked her pen. "I'm not kicking you out (Y/N). I see your potential. However, I don't think you can handle this environment."

(Y/N)'s eyebrows knit together. "Are you relocating me?"

"No," Dr. Zhao said. "But you'll be going on a brief suspension."
