Chapter 10 – An Ominous Glow

Saturday, May 11, 2176
9:33 AM
Cross Resort, Phobos

Jerry sat in his motel room and decided to keep no contact with Alyssa after last night. Deep inside anguish burned within him. Priya and Arjun (who also decided to be more confident and open to seeing the real world) saw him as he sat there in regret. Jerry took a stylus and wrote something on a foldable screen known as e-paper, which was the electronic equivalent to paper which people stopped using over a century ago. As he wrote, he took deep and heavy breaths to maintain his composure and stable state-of-mind. Then he finished writing and sang what he wrote to himself.

My Deepest Regret

You Were My Glowing Angel from Another Star,
I Fell in Love with You Coming from Very Far.
You and I Were Very Close at One Point in Time,
Then You Left Me for Good Having Tails On Your Dime!

A Few Years Ago, I Saw A Luminous Beam,
Was that You Or Was that Just A Vivid Dream!
To Remain in My Limits I Will Never Forget,
But Having Lost You Is My Deepest Regret!

It Was A Dark Moment in My Life Indeed,
Such That Did Not Allow Me to Live Nor Die.
But Now I Promise You Whenever I Find Love Again,
I Will Make Sure She Will Never Cry.

Life is Short, and Love is Not Always Existent,
Even Then I Will Keep Calm and Remain Persistent.
Because I Know that Love is for Everyone,
Just as Long as they Are Happy and Self-sufficient.

Jerry then sat back and shed a few tears. "I'm sorry, Alyssa." He said. Then he decided to just tour the rest of Phobos on his own. Jerry then went to use the bathroom, while Priya felt uneasy seeing Jerry upset. "He's been uptight about this since last night!" said Priya. "I wish I could console him." Arjun looked at her, "I think it's best that we stay out of it, it's really none of our business." Arjun said. "You're right, but I know what I need to do." Priya replied. Then she walked over to the table where Jerry was sitting and picked up the poem he wrote. Then she swiped the e-paper and it disappeared into her. Then she sent it off to an unknown location. Jerry finished using the bathroom. Then he picked up his holo-phone. "Come on, guys!" said Jerry to the two AI. "We're going to tour the place some more." Arjun then looked at him. "I think you should talk to Alyssa." He said. "At least apologize and patch up with her." Jerry then looked at them. "I don't plan on it!" said Jerry. "And Arjun, never bring this up again, please!" Then with that, he got set to leave the resort. Arjun and Priya looked at one another, shrugged and then disappeared into the holo-phone. Arjun then looked at Priya. "How long do you think until he finds out, you sent the poem to Alyssa?" said Arjun. "I'm surprised you did that!" Priya then sighed. "Jerry is my friend, more than he's my client. I serve him, but he never saw me as any less than his friend!" said Priya. "I sent that to Alyssa, but I also mentioned it was me, and I wanted her to see what Jerry wrote for her, knowing he meant well." "Yeah, but you just jeopardized his chances to reconciling with her!" said Arjun "Not, really!" said Priya. "Alyssa responded and she's actually coming to see Jerry." Arjun looked at Priya in awe. "Shit! Does Jerry know about it?" said Arjun. "No, but eventually he will!" said Priya. "Alysa's coming as we speak!" Jerry then paused as suddenly he saw Alyssa in front of him. She looked at him seriously. He looked at her as well, also serious.

Jerry then turned to walk away. "Wait!" said Alyssa. "I need to talk to you for just a minute." Jerry looked at her. "I understand what happened last night was a shock, for both me and you!" said Alyssa. "But, please don't be upset! I don't blame you for whatever happened, and I'm sorry for what I said to you." Jerry then sighed. "The fault was actually mine!" said Jerry. "I should be the one apologizing to you. I'm sorry for all that I told you, and I am leaving now to enjoy my day. So, if you need to talk, let's do it later on!" Jerry then turned to go. But he felt Alyssa's hand touch his hand. "I know you're still upset with me. But I want you as a friend!" said Alyssa. "You're the only friend I had, since the day I realized I was being screwed by that wretch, Chris!" Jerry looked at her. "I can't be friends with you as I have feelings for you." He said. "You can still continue to show me places if you want." "That'll be good enough!" said Alyssa.

Then Jerry and Alyssa began to walk with one another. "What made you come here?" said Jerry. "Well, you're not gonna believe it." Alyssa said. "Priya took the poem you wrote for me and forwarded it to me without your knowledge!" Jerry looked at Alyssa in shock. "That's one crazy and devious AI!" said Jerry. "It's 2176!" said Alyssa. "What isn't crazy nowadays?" Jerry laughed as well as Alyssa and the two shared a hug. Alyssa then hugged Jerry even more and shed a few tears. "I love you, Alyssa!" said Jerry. "I know you don't see me that way, but still!" "It's alright!" said Alyssa. "As long as you don't cross the line!" "I promise!" said Jerry. They hugged more for a while and then got ready to tour Phobos even more.

Meanwhile, Tango Galnac was having a tough moment finding more evidence. The clues that were found at the Montgomery dome lead them to a gigantic satellite array. "What the hell are we doing coming to a satellite array?" said Lance. "Don't you think this mission is full of a little too many red herrings?" "Jesus, Lance!" said Larkin. "You sound just like my mother!" "You take your mother to a lot of military missions, boss?" said Luna. "Up until know, we have not received any additional intel which actually leads to something good!" Upon arriving to the satellite array, which was located only a mile away from the Kanzen dome, the group got out of their vehicle and put on their radiation shielding suits as well as oxygen masks. "We need to enter the control center of the array!" said Larkin. "I'm sure we'll gather some intel there ourselves." They entered the array via a door which was security locked. However, Rahul was able to obtain the door's security code, by ethically hacking the computer network of them vicinity. "Alright, Tango Galnac! Let's get out of here as soon as we figure out whatever the hell's going on!" said Larkin. "I promise you, after this each and every one of you including myself will receive a whole month off!" It was not long before the team entered the satellite array that all of a sudden, smoke began to fill the air. "What the hell is this?" Larkin said. "Shit, it's sleeping gas!" said Rahul. "We need to get out of here, now!" The team began to feel weak and sleepy. Luna tried to get to Rahul while Lance tried to get to Larkin. "Boss!" said Lance weakly. But it was too late. The team was knocked out cold.
